Principal’s Message
Zone Cross Country
Congratulations to all our Zone Cross Country Carnival participants last week. It was a wet and muddy morning at St Ives Showground, but our students demonstrated great resilience and determination when representing our school. Congratulations to Mitch, who came 6th in the 8 to 9 year age race. He will go ahead to compete at the Area carnival later this term. Congratulations to Natalie who placed 9th in her age race and to Rhys and Ariel who both finished in the top 36.
Thank you to Mrs Taylor and Mrs Took for organising our school’s participation. Our runners had lots of parent support on the day. Thank you also to our wonderful parent volunteers, with Mrs Pullar, Mrs Duncan and Mrs Bennett as team managers on the day.

Walk Safely to School Day
Students enjoyed recognising Walk Safely to School Day last Friday. As part of developing our ongoing awareness of self and keeping safe, students participated in classroom activities. Mementos such as keyrings, stickers and pedometers were given to students to mark the day.
New IWBs
Installation and upgrade of our Interactive Whiteboard Boards (IWBs) was completed last week. Our students and teachers have been making the most of the new LED touch panels that have replaced the SMART board projectors previously installed. Our library, art room and music room also have new LED panels installed for all our students to enjoy when using our shared learning spaces.
Principal’s Gold morning tea
I look forward to hosting the Principal's Gold morning tea for all the students who have received a gold award either last year or this year and have not yet attended a morning tea. Parents are welcome to join their child for this special occasion. Our Gold morning tea will be held in the library from 12.30-1.15 on Wednesday 8th June.
Kind regards

Assistant Principal’s Message
# MathsTrainsBrains - Can you help?
We want our students to be confident, enthusiastic and persistent Mathematicians. To do this we need our school community to help. How can you help at home? Building a positive relationship with Mathematics is vital to students having the confidence and persistence in their learning. The Everyday Maths Hub is a great resource for parents to see quick, simple and everyday ways to incorporate and help their children to ‘see the Mathematics’ in their everyday lives. From planning outfits to car cricket there are lots of examples of ways to enhance your child’s understanding of Mathematics and consolidate their learning at school. Please check it out!
K-2 Home Readers
Our younger students are eagerly waiting for the arrival of new home readers. These decodable readers will support students as they learn the phonemes (sounds) and the letters that represent them. Home reading is a way of practising and applying this knowledge through a text that makes sense and is visually appealing. For more advanced readers, a variety of new decodable readers suited for higher reading levels have also been ordered. These readers have been purchased with the generous support of SIPPS P&C and school funds. Thank you to our P&C for enriching the home reading experience for SIPPS families.
Photo Day
Our school photo day is on Monday 6th June and fast approaching! Please make sure your child is prepared by wearing the full school Winter uniform, with correct shoes and socks. Hair ties or ribbons need to be in the school colour range of red, green or white.
Staff Professional Learning
One of our strategic focuses in our School Improvement Plan is to enhance the teaching and learning of Mathematics. Our teachers continue to work with the school’s instructional leader and the consultant from the Mathematics Association New South Wales (MANSW) to develop their application of the latest research and understanding of how best to develop students’ problem solving skills and mathematical knowledge. Through participation in lesson observations and feedback sessions, our teachers are continually evaluating and developing rich learning experiences for our students in Mathematics.

NCCD
Dear Parents and Caregivers
The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD), is a collection that counts the number of school students receiving an adjustment due to disability. This adjustment allows a student to access education on the same basis as other students.
The distribution of funding to schools for students with a disability is based on the NCCD.
The information collected also encourages schools to review their learning and support systems and helps teachers better support students with disability at school.
Data is collected within each school. However, personal details such as student names are not provided to federal education authorities. When the data is uploaded from our school all personal identification data is redacted.
The process is finalised at the end of term 2 each year.
If you have any questions, please click on the attached document, and if you still have questions, please contact the school.
Hope we all stay healthy through this cold weather,
Adrienne Reid
Learning and Support Teacher.
Stage 2 Highlights

Stage Two have had a busy and productive term so far! They have been enjoying lots of hands-on, open-ended activities in Maths lessons and continue to develop their number strategies through Number Talks. They have been learning lots of new coding skills in Scope IT each Monday and keeping active with athletics each Tuesday during Got Game. Recently they presented some wonderful speeches and we congratulate them for being well prepared and confidently presenting to their classes. On Thursday 26th, we did some activities for ‘Sorry Day’. We explored this through reading rich texts, having class discussions and creating beautiful artworks to commemorate this important day in our nation’s history.

National Sorry Day
On Thursday 26th May we commemorated National Sorry Day. On this day we remember when Hon. Kevin Rudd, the then Prime Minister addressed the Australian parliament to deliver a sorry speech to Indigenous Australians especially those who were a part of the stolen generation. At school we had many interesting and thought-provoking discussions, wrote reflections on what has been learnt and did some art works inspired by the Indigenous artist, Sheri Skele. We will continue this work all week for Reconciliation Week which runs from Friday 27th May to 3rd June.

National Simultaneous Storytime
Students in K-2 were very excited to be part of this national celebration of reading along with 2,186,347 other participants from around Australia and the world. We all listened to the live reading of the book Family Tree read by its author, Josh Pyke. It was also very exciting to have the Year 6 students join their Kindy buddies for the event.

Band
Senior Band - only two more rehearsals left till our debut at the concourse on Friday 10th June.
The band is currently working on Geronimo, Remember the Anzacs, Heroes March and Baby Shark.
Yesterday at band rehearsal, the clarinet section was busy mastering the art of blending as a section to sound like one player. Aryan was mastering the rock beat for Baby Shark.
If your child doesn’t have a copy of any of the music, please send me an email.
Junior Band - Due to the Zone Cross Country, some students had private lessons on their instrument.
Currently mastering the art of legato playing, quite a skill, they need nice long phases for Au Claire De la Lune, Jingle Bells and exercise 41 - 8th note jam.
Welcome Chloe, who has just commenced learning the flute.
Volunteer required – We still need one more driver to help transport the children to and from the concourse. If you are a parent of the senior band, please HELP! Thank you Emmy D for volunteering.

St Ives voted, SIPPS had the winning Cake Stall and BBQ!
Thank you to all the bakers, BBQers and volunteers at our Election Cake Stall and BBQ. The rain stayed away, the voters all came out, and there was a great buzz at SIPPS. The BBQ was kept busy and how glamorous was our cake stall! A huge thank you to Jess, Stewart, Rene and Donovan for all their hard work plus everyone else who pitched in. We raised a record $4,100 which goes straight into buying resources for our kids – like the Smart Interactive Whiteboard the P&C just purchased for the library. Thanks SIPPS!

Special Lunch Day, Thu 9 June
Sausage sizzle and ice-block. Purchase on Qkr! before 6 June.
