Principal’s Message
Thank you fantastic parent volunteers
Last Sunday’s Bunning’s barbeque was a great success. Thank you to our wonderful P&C team and everyone who made cakes or took a shift on the barbecue last Sunday.
This and other fundraising events held by the P&C contribute towards additional resources and programs that the school can deliver to all SIPPS students. Members of the P&C playground sub-committee have been liaising with me regarding the playground refurbishment project. I thank them for their input in designing the scope of works which are now under a tendering process. There will be an update on the project at this Wednesday evening’s P&C meeting.
School Grounds Maintenance
A big thank you to our parent volunteer Ali who spent most of her day gardening and was a great help to our General Assistant Wim.
Reporting Student Achievement
Teachers are finalising Semester 1 student reports which will go home to parents on Tuesday 3 July Student achievement is measured against stage-based outcomes and individual learning goals. They contain information about what has been taught and about students’ current levels of knowledge, skills and understandings, including areas for further development. Reports also provide parents with information about how students are progressing socially as well as academically.
School Swimming and Water Safety Program
This year we are once again participating in the School Swimming and Water Safety program. The program will run in Term 4 from Monday 10 December to Wednesday 19 December. The session time is 11:30am to 12:15pm each day. The lessons will be held at Ku-ring-gai Fitness and Aquatic Centre West Pymble. Places are strictly limited to 30 students with a minimum number of 20 required to run the program. The program is for students in Year 2 and up who are not competent swimmers.
Places will be filled on a first in first served basis and can be secured by returning a completed permission slip along with a fully paid deposit to the school office. These notes will be issued to students in the next fortnight. More information about the program is available at the following link.

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data
The national data collection on students with disability acknowledges the work schools undertake to support students with disability. It assists schools to identify and to support students with disability so they can access and participate in education on the same basis as their peers. Our school is required to collect data for this annual survey. Students at SIPPS who are provided with a reasonable adjustment to access education are included in this annual collection. Please see following link for further information.

Celebrating Student Success
Mathematics Enrichment
Several of our Stage 3 students recently attended Talented ‘Out Of The Box’ Workshops run my Inquisitive Minds at St Ives North PS. The workshops included hands-on puzzles, an interactive problem solving lesson, a hands-on problem solving relay and cooperative problem solving activities. I was extremely proud of how SIPPS students worked collaboratively with like-minded peers from other schools. Congratulations to Bella who won an achievement award for outstanding problem-solving.

Dynamic Debaters
Again last week our debating team won their third round debate in the local interschool competition. The SIPPS team comprising of Isobel, Mathilde, Sophia and Emma established and consistently maintained a strong team case and provided convincing rebuttal to achieve the win. Congratulations girls and their coach Mrs Myburgh.
Sporting Success
Our Zone cross country team competed in the interschool’s carnival recently at St Ives Showground. Congratulations to all SIPPS representatives including Alex who came first in his age group and will now represent our wider school network at the Area Carnival in Gosford.
House Point Tally
All those students demonstrating Personal Best by participating in the zone cross country earned a point for their house. These along with the ongoing collection of catch card points will determine the winning house for 2018. The winners will enjoy Heroes of the House Day event at the end of the year.

Monster Mash
Thank you to Yvonne Stone for her recent art program that saw our students creating 3D monster sculptures. Here are some wonderful examples of what our students have created.
1/2 Blue – Stepping Back in Time – Schoolhouse Museum Excursion
This term, 1/2 Blue students were immersed in past daily school life, enjoying recreated lessons and outdoor activities. They compared children’s daily lives and technologies of the past. The session included dancing around the maypole, using an early reader, viewing original 1880s pupils’ work, writing Copperplate with pen and ink and toasting bread on an open fire.

Stewart House Clothing Appeal 2018
Collection pick up is on Wednesday July 4th 2018
Bags have been sent home with the children. If you have any unwanted childrens’ clothing please place them in the bags, and bring them into the school office. Thank you very much for your support in this very worthy cause.
Children's crossings
These are part-time crossings which operate just before and after school hours, as well as other times such as school excursions and lunch times. They are highlighted by red flags with the words CHILDREN CROSSING on them.
When the flags are displayed you must slow down and stop before the stop line if a pedestrian is on or entering the crossing. You must not proceed until all pedestrians have left the crossing.
You must not stop on or within 20 metres before or 10 metres after, a children’s crossing.
Combined children's and pedestrian crossing
Some pedestrian crossings are used as children’s crossings at some times during the day. The display of CHILDREN CROSSING flags means that the children's crossing is operating.
When the flags are not displayed the crossing operates as a normal pedestrian crossing.

Helping Hands OOSH & Vacation Care
A warm hello from the team at OOSH!
We have been enjoying a fantastic term at before and after school care. It has been really encouraging to see the children try new activities and developing strong friendships. Chilly mornings have been heating up with excellent competition around the new air hockey table and afternoons are a dynamic mix of craft, sport and cooking club! We also make sure there is a comfortable place to have some quiet time or complete homework.
We are looking forward to an exciting and diverse holiday program. Adventurous excursions like a visit to the Power House Museum and the amazing Sky Zone! We will also be having some special guests including magicians, scientists and even some reptiles! Please check out our Winter program for more details. Finally, note that all children are able to enrol in our holiday program. Last vacation care we welcomed children from many different schools who were excited to have a unique play date at OOSH with their SIPS friend, cousin or neighbour.
Most recently we have updated our booking system. If you have a current enrolment with Helping Hands you can now make bookings and cancellations online!
As always we welcome any questions or feedback!
Grace and the OOSH team.
Kind Regards,
Grace De Wet
