Getting On Track In Time – Got it!
We are pleased to announce dates for the Got it! Universal Parent Support Sessions. These are scheduled for Tuesday 8 May and Tuesday 22 May from 5:30 to 7pm. All parents of children from K-6 are invited to attend these two education sessions held at SIPPS. These sessions present information about evidence-based parenting strategies to support children’s social and emotional development. Got it offers parents:
- Parenting strategies
- Support in their parenting roles to continue promoting a positive family environment
- New skills to make a positive difference to their child’s social and emotional wellbeing during this important developmental period
- Additional social and support networks
- Opportunities to continue building positive relationships with the school.
Easter Celebrations
Last Thursday many SIPPS Grand-friends enjoyed our annual Easter Hat Parade, book fair and P&C morning tea and barbecue. Once again we were joined by students and families from Sir Eric Woodward Memorial School. Thank you to students, staff, P&C volunteers and visitors for making the day a special start to the Easter season.

LEST WE FORGET
Next Thursday April 12, we will hold a special commemoration assembly at 12 noon in the hall. This will be run by our student leaders. In attendance will be special guests representing the Roseville RSL sub-Branch and Royal Australian Navy. Student representatives from each class will be laying a posy of flowers at the base of the flag pole as a floral tribute. Parents and carers are most welcome to attend our special ANZAC assembly.
SIPPS Cross Country Carnival
Next Wednesday 11 April, students will participate in our annual cross country carnival. After walking the short distance to Acron Oval, students will run in their respective age groups on a circuit which takes in some of the bush reserve. Thank you to Miss Emerson and Mr Dimmers for organising this event and parent volunteers who will be stationed on key positions around the course. This activity can be logged for activity towards achievement of the 2018 Premier’s Sporting Challenge.
NSW Premier's Sporting Challenge
Our school has registered to take part in the 2018 Premier’s Sporting Challenge (PSC). The NSW PSC encourages students and staff over a 10 week period to participate in a broad range of sports and recreational pursuits to develop their understanding of the importance of sport and physical activity.
During the 10 week Challenge students and staff record their physical activity each day. Any daily physical activity which is moderate to vigorous in intensity can be accrued.
Award levels for the Challenge reflect a daily activity time commitment - either as part of a class/team or each individual student. Activities may include time spent in a broad range of sports during lunchtime, in school sport programs, class time, before or after school and on weekends.
NAPLAN Reminder
Parents of students in Yrs. 3 and 5 are reminded to check their child/ren’s bag as NAPLAN paperwork was sent home with students today. NAPLAN dates are:
- Tuesday 15 May – Language Conventions & Writing
- Wednesday 16 May – Reading
- Thursday 17 May – Numeracy
- Friday 18 May – Last day for individual students to complete catch-up tests
Reading Tutors Volunteers
Great start! Thanks to all parent/community volunteers who have joined us to work in partnership with our Year 1 and 2 students. We are still looking for a couple of mums, dads, grand-friends to work on Thursday mornings. Please contact Ms Reid through the school office.
Teacher Professional Learning
Professional learning opportunities build staff capacity to deliver quality teaching and learning that is relevant to the needs of SIPPS students. SIPPS teachers are electing to swap 20 and 21 December, the final two pupil free days of 2018, for four 3 hour after school professional learning sessions.
Teachers feel that utilising their personal time after school hours earlier in the year will be more productive and beneficial to students and their learning outcomes than the final day of the year. Staff will complete the following programs:
- Developing a Learning Community – PETAA Special Delivery: Writing – A tailored professional learning course that will support teachers to improve outcomes for their students in all aspects of English language, literature and literacy.
- iPLAY - an evidence-based professional learning program aimed at improving teacher confidence whilst increasing student physical activity and fitness levels.
This variation ensures there is no disruption to SIPPS students or their families as it does not alter the number of days that students will attend school this year. We thank the school community for their ongoing support of our teachers’ professional learning and performance development plans.
Winter School Uniform
Term 2 sees the official return of our school Winter Uniform. However, while we are transitioning into the cooler months (Weeks 1 & 2 only); students will be permitted to wear either their full summer or winter uniform to school. Parents are kindly asked to use their judgement and ensure that all students are in a correct school uniform which is either the full summer or winter uniform. Thank you to our P&C Uniform Shop Coordinators Ms Fisk and Mr Wood and parent volunteers for the great job they do running our uniform shop and supporting SIPPS families.
Autumn Vacation
This is the last newsletter before the autumn school vacation. Thank you to SIPPS staff, parents and community members who have actively assisted the school in the delivery of Term 1 programs and events. In Term 2, we will continue building a Positive and Respectful Learning Community to develop Responsible and Resilient Learners.
Vacation Care for students is available by booking directly with Helping Hands OOSH. This will also include a program for our pupil free staff development day on Monday 30 April. Please see the flyer below for more information. The official Term 2 start date for students is Tuesday 1 May 2018.
Best wishes for a safe and relaxing holiday

Class Profile – 3/4 Red
Hi everyone, it’s Mr Dimmers here to tell you all about 3/4 Red. We are a class which is learning all about what it means to be part of the primary half of our school, as for most of our class; it is their first year in primary.
As a class, we love heading outside! We look for every opportunity to head outside and use our fantastic school grounds at SIPPS to learn. Some of the things we do outside include;
- Fieldwork, where we make observations of the animals and their impacts on the school.
- Writing, where we use the environment as inspiration for our ideas.
- Sport, as our school has fantastic grounds, we are able to learn new skills and play different games regardless of the weather.
- Art, making sketches of the school and of natural and man-made features.
Being part of 3/4 Red means moving around the school a lot. On Monday, we have Young Engineers in the STEM Room. We have been making and programming amusement park models. Tuesdays give us time for Music and Gymnastics in the hall. On Thursdays, we are lucky enough to head to art and library, and finally on Friday, we head to either PSSA Sport or the school softball program.
We are quickly learning to become independent, critical and creative thinkers, so check back in later in the year to see how our journey is going!
Class 1/2 Red Water Pic Collages
This term Stage 1 have been investigating how we use and access water at school and home during Science. 1/2 Red went on a water walk around SIPPS taking pictures with iPads to record water usage. They then used their photos to create collages on the iPads to display their findings. Students thoroughly enjoyed taking on the role of photographers and designers. They all came up with unique and wonderful creations.

Class 5/6 Red
Each day 5/6Red read and analyse a ‘precept’, or a general rule for life, focused around kindness. One of our precepts this week was:
Where there is love, there is joy.
- Mother Teresa
Below are some of our responses to this precept, and what it means to us.
I think this precept means that the more you love
someone, the more joy or happiness they feel. Everyone always feels good
within themselves when they show love or are being loved so this creates
more joy to go around. If someone shows joy toward you, it makes you feel
loved.
By Matilda Grimmond
This precept means that whenever you feel love, you get
happy at the same time. It could be something you love or someone but it
always makes you happy. If it's a game you love, you have fun playing
it. You could be a celebrity or be famous and people love you it makes you
feel proud and happy about yourself.
By Alexandra Anderson
This precept means that it feels good to love someone and
you feel happy. Love is a strong force. Love is wonderful. If you don’t
have love you’ll be lonely.
By Connor Warn
If there's love in your heart there's is joy all
around you. Happiness is like a vibe you can feel it in your blood. It
makes everyone happy including you. Fire can burn but not your happiness.
Love and joy are good but connect them and it equals pure kindness.

Helping Hands OOSH & Vacation Care
Warm hello from the team at OOSH.
It has been an exciting fortnight for us. After a brainstorming session with the children we have moved around our OOSH room to create more space for relaxing, imaginative play, construction and games! We have also enjoyed the arrival of new furniture and resources like OOSH scrapbooks. We have observed such strong sense of creativity and initiative in the St Ives Park children and love providing them with recourses to further explore their ideas. One example of this is our OOSH film crew. A group of students enjoy planning, scripting and filming their own movies. This week they made special tickets and promotional posters and we were treated to a very special viewing of their films.
Lately OOSH has been a very musical place! Ukuleles, budding guitarists, strumming and sing-a-longs there is never a dull moment. One notable morning was on Harmony Day when we all sang 'We are Australian' together, celebrating our diversity and oneness.
Our holiday program is now just a couple of weeks away. We have some fantastic excursions (Inflatable World!), incursions (African Drumming and Dance!) and theme days (Our Kitchen Rules!) on offer. Please check out our brochure for more information and return your slip to the OOSH room or by email asap!
As always we welcome any inquiries or feedback and we wish you all a fantastic Easter season!
Warm Regards,
Grace, Jen, Emma and Georgie.
Kind Regards,
Grace Keegan
