Principal’s Message
Welcome to the new look Patter. We hope that you enjoy the new format and the ease in which you can access it on your smart devices. You can also keep up-to-date with the SIPPS news and calendar events via Facebook.
It was very pleasing to see how well all returning and new students settled into the new school term. On my visits to classrooms, I have witnessed high levels of engagement in learning and all classes demonstrating the school expectations of Respect, Responsibility and Personal Best. Teachers have also been inspired by recent professional development opportunities to use a future-focused approach to the planning of learning experiences and spaces as seen in 4BJ.
A new learning space for 4BJ
New teachers this term are Miss Brittany Black who will be teaching 3B for the remainder of 2015. Mrs Kristen Robinson is replacing Mrs Apter while she is on leave. Miss Short is teaching KA while Mrs Anderson is on leave. Next week we also welcome our new school counsellor Merryn Taplin to SIPPS. She will be with us every other Wednesday (even weeks). I would like to extend my thanks and best wishes to Sarah Peterson who has moved on to a new permanent role as school counsellor in another school network area.
Last week, we literally ‘kicked off’ our Term 3 Tuesday sport program with Auskick AFL. Every class will have a weekly session to enhance their fitness and skills in a fun and energetic way. Thank you to parents for supporting our efforts to enrich the sporting experiences that we offer all SIPPS students.

Reminder to Year 4 parents that the 2016 Opportunity Class Placement Test will take place at 9.00am to 11.15 am on Wednesday 22 July 2015. The test centre for students from our school is:
Davidson High School
Mimosa St
FRENCHS FOREST NSW 2086
All students who have registered to sit the ICAS English test will need to be at school by 7:55am on Tuesday July 28. They will need to meet Miss Moule in the 5/6S classroom before the test begins at 8am. For registered students who are away on the Stage 2 camp, there will be an opportunity to complete the test on Thursday July 30.
On Thursday July 30 during Education Week we will once again host a special Open Day program including a special open day assembly at 9:30am followed by open classrooms from 10:15 until 11:00 when we will have an early and extended morning tea so that families might enjoy the opportunity to picnic on our spectacular grounds.
Good luck Stage 2 campers as they head off to Milson Island Sport and Recreation Camp on Monday July 27. Thank you to Miss Beaumont-Jones and Miss Black who will be attending the overnight camp with students. All campers will need to be at school ready to board the buses at 7:45am
Parents and carers are also welcome to attend our Education Week Parent forum, on Monday 27 July in the school staffroom at 2:30pm. Mrs Park, our teacher of the Korean Language would like the opportunity to meet members of our parent community and share aspects of her program with you.
Thank you to our P&C class parent representatives who are organising the upcoming Comedy for a Cause school fundraiser. It is promising to be an excellent opportunity for our parent community to socialise and enjoy and evening of entertainment.
Inspiring and Nurturing Successful Lifelong Learners
At the end of last term SIPPS staff had an inspiring day exploring the latest in innovations in future-focused education. It was encouraging to hear that we are already incorporating many of the ideas and technologies that were discussed. We feel confident to implement these exciting ideas.
Some ideas we took away from the day were:
- Improving classroom climate which includes; furniture layout, colours used within the classroom.
- Creating a flexible learning space, both inside and outside of the classroom.
- Building authentic learning experiences for learners.
- What we do as teachers to inspire our students to take control of their own learning.
- Innovative and creative ways of using technology to support the learning experience.

Welcome to the new Schoolzine newsletter format. We are excited to be able to provide an enhanced and hopefully more interesting newsletter and we look forward to working with our community to bring you timely and informative news of what is happening in the school.
WOOLWORTHS EARN & LEARN STICKER COLLECTION
The Woolworths Earn & Learn program is back. This community program enables schools to earn educational resources from Modern Teaching Aids when anyone from the school community shops at Woolworths.
Starting Wednesday 15 July when anyone from the school community- staff, parents, friends, relatives, carers shop at Woolworths, they can collect stickers to place on their sticker cards. Once they complete their sticker cards they can place them in a collection box, at either our school outside the office, or the local Woolworths at St Ives Village Shops. The sticker sheets can be downloaded from the website

Uniform Shop
Uniform Shop Term 3
The uniform shop will be open every Wednesday this term in the odd weeks, starting this Wednesday the 15th of July.
After a successful trial run last term opening the Uniform Shop at the earlier time of 8:30am, we have decided to permanently change our shop hours from 8:30 - 9:30am. This seems to fit with working parents better and it allows for fittings before the first bell.
Thank you to the parents who have been donating used clothing. There is so much in great condition that we have had to divide our used stock into summer and winter so it will fit on the racks. It’s also in such good condition that we’re selling much more second hand clothing then we ever have in the past.
Eftpos / credit card transactions are working very well, allowing a cash-free way for parents to pay. Those parents who are buying via email are still able to use internet banking to transfer funds.
Finally thank you to all the parent volunteers that help run the Uniform Shop and assist the parents and children. Without your support the shop wouldn’t be able to run. You are very much appreciated.
Have a great term.

Ethics
Become a Primary Ethics Teacher at St. Ives Park Primary School
Primary Ethics provides the opportunity for NSW public primary school students who don't attend scripture classes (SRE) to participate in philosophical ethics classes. We need a new volunteer to teach the Years 5 & 6 ethics class starting as soon as possible. The classes teach children how to approach ethical issues and develop their capacity for considered moral judgment, which will enable them to respond more thoughtfully to many of the problems and issues they will face in their lives. Volunteer Ethics Teachers are trained to deliver our age-appropriate curriculum every week and to use the accompanying learning and teaching materials. For more information about the role and to volunteer, please go to
