Principal’s Message

Road Safety 2023 – It’s all about keeping children safe!

I would like to say thank you to all our families who consistently promote road and pedestrian safety at SIPPS. Many of our families walk to school and cross the very busy Acron Road using the pedestrian crossing. Most of our families park safely and legally or use Kiss and Drop to collect and drop students to and from school. We are very fortunate to have so many families who really care for all our SIPPS students.

It has been noted that some vehicles are not following the road rules and road safety signs. The council rangers have been out to SIPPS to support student safety and will continue to monitor the area.

Whenever children are in a car, they should be safely buckled-up in child car seats that are correct for each child’s age and size. Authorised Restraint Fitting Stations  offer expert help on fitting and adjusting child car seats.

The beginning and end of the school day are busy times for pedestrians and vehicles outside the school. That’s why you need to take extra care in 40km/h school zones.

  • Park safely and legally, even if it means walking further to the school gate. Parking signs are planned with children’s safety in mind.
  • Slow down to 40km/h in the school zone and stay aware of crossings.
  • Always park and turn legally around the school. • Never double park as it puts children at risk.
  • Manoeuvres such as U-turns and three-point turns are dangerous.
  • Never park in a bus zone or in the school bus bay.
  • Make sure your children use the Safety Door (rear footpath side door) to get in and out of the car.
  • At a supervised crossing, observe the directions of the school crossing supervisor.
  • Model safe and considerate behaviour for your child – they will learn from you.

International Women’s Day – Accelerating Equality and Empowerment

SIPPS P&C went above and beyond on International Women’s Day, presenting the school with books to inspire and empower our future women leaders in our school. There was a wonderful range of texts which are suitable for Kinder to Year 6 readers. All our students, staff and visiting parents were provided a purple ribbon as a reminder of the need to embrace equity for women around the world.

A little note from the history books: As our state election approaches this weekend, it is interesting to reflect on the fact that it is only since 1902 and the implementation of The Commonwealth Franchise Act that women over the age of 21years were able to vote in Australia and only since 1965 when the last state changed it’s laws that Aboriginal women have been able to vote. Although a number of other territories enabled the vote for women before 1893, New Zealand can justly claim to be the first self-governing country to grant the vote to all adult women.

Parent and Teacher Interviews Weeks 9 and 10 Term 1

Parent / Teacher Interviews are scheduled for Weeks 9 and 10 of Term 1 (20/3 – 31/3). Please don’t forget to book your 15minute timeslot with your child’s teacher. The SchoolZine app is open to parents.

We understand that sometimes schedules do not align, and parents may need to request an appointment early in Term 2 if they cannot attend in the allocated times across these two weeks.

School site enhancement 2023

Looking even better! Painting @ SIPPS:

By the end of Term 1 we anticipate the painting should be complete. We are currently in the midst of this painting schedule. Thank you to everyone for their patience.

Permissions

The DoE has updated their requirements for all schools to require written permission for students to access third party online applications. This note is being formulated and will require permission to access programs such as SoundWaves, Canva and Literacy Planet. Google, Mathletics, Wushka and MS Office 365 are core and approved applications provided by the Department, so are not required to have a separate permission. Please look out for the permission note this week.

IER – Inclusive Engaging and Respectful schools

Schools reflect the wider community and are diverse places. Around 1 in 5 students have additional learning and support needs, or display complex behaviours and a growing number need personalised support. Inclusive, engaging and respectful learning environments play a critical role in supporting students reach their full potential. Through a student-centred approach, these policies aim to strengthen and improve student outcomes across NSW.

Three policies have been developed in response to the Royal Commission:

  • Inclusive Education policy for students with disability
  • Student Behaviour Policy
  • Restrictive Practices Policy

The Student Behaviour Policy and Student Behaviour Procedures Kindergarten to Year 12 are underpinned by schools implementing a care continuum which involves being proactive and prevention-focused.

Kind regards
Caroline English

Year 7 2024 Enrolments for High School – New online system

Information has already been sent out to our year 6 parents via Schoolbytes.

To enrol your child in Year 7 for 2024, you will need to complete an Expression of Interest for Year 6 to Year 7 transition. The EOI process is now available online.

The Expression of Interest (EOI) lets you indicate which school(s) you would like your child to attend in Year 7. After you submit an EOI and it has been assessed, your child will be offered a place at a high school.

If your child will not be attending a NSW Government high school next year, please let us know by completing the Placement Not Required Online form. If you are unsure whether they will be attending a NSW Government school (you’ve applied for a private school, or you are moving interstate), we ask that you still complete an EOI and follow up with your school once a decision has been made.

The online process will guide you through your options and collect the information required to make the process as smooth as possible. The EOI process is now available online and closes 31 March, 2023.

To start the application process please visit:

https://year7.enrol.education.nsw.gov.au/expressionofinterest?schoolCode=4433

and for more information about moving to high school, visit:

Parent Portal

Have you downloaded The Parent Portal by School Bytes? This is a great place for you to see everything about your child. If you have child/ren at St Ives High School it is the same app for all of your children. You can select by child and see what notes need to be signed and what fees are outstanding and pay your fees.

Service NSW Back to School Vouchers.

St Ives Park PS is set up to take the $50 vouchers towards your excursion/incursion. The rules around the use of the vouchers are quite clear:

  • The students name on the voucher, dictates who we need to allocate the $50 to for an excursion they are attending.
  • We cannot take the voucher unless you have an excursion to apply it to.
  • Vouchers cannot be used for Voluntary contributions.
  • You will not receive change (ie, if the excursion costs $47 the school will only receive $47, the $3 is lost). We cannot put the balance into Fees in Advance.
  • You will need to present your voucher to school for processing before paying your account. Multiple vouchers can be accepted, particularly if you are paying for a camp.
  • We will apply the voucher against the excursion. Any balance owing on the excursion can then be paid using the payment portal.

Please use the following link if you would like any further information on the vouchers:

We look forward to taking the next steps to have SIPPS sun powered.

International Women’s Day

The P&C were delighted to mark and support the school to celebrate International Women’s Day on 8 March. Students were provided with an IWD ribbon. We donated $300 worth of books to the school library including titles; ‘Twelve Women Who Shaped History’, ‘Amazing Australian Women’, ‘Girls Who Changed the World’ and many more. The range of books were selected to cover students from Kindy right through to Year 6

P&C Special Lunch

Many thanks to everyone involved in the special lunch that the kids enjoyed on 24 February. A call out to Jess and Claire who spent the morning preparing and cooking the hotdogs for all the kids.

P&C donations to classroom teachers

The P&C donated $200 for each classroom teacher to buy inspirational resources for their classroom. This is only possible through the voluntary contributions the P&C receive from parents and the fundraising activities throughout the year.

P&C supporting SIPPS PSSA

The P&C are once again supporting SIPPS competitive sport by funding $8000 for the teacher needed to run the PSSA program. Sport is a big thing at SIPPS and many of our kids are involved in the PSSA interschool sport competitions throughout the year. Thank you to everyone who has supported the fundraising efforts to ensure our kids get to be involved.

Voluntary Contributions

Each term the P&C voluntary contribution is listed on the school fees statement. This money goes towards funding the additional things that the school may not be able provide for our kids. Recent support has included additional library books, classroom readers, funding the PSSA teacher, upgrading the hall Sound & AV and contributing towards the bathroom upgrade. We thank you in advance for supporting the P&C with your voluntary contribution payment.
