Kindergarten and new enrolment tour tomorrow
We welcome any current parents and new parents who have Kindergarten students commencing in 2023 to Mrs Wright for a school tour tomorrow. We will share with our families the SIPPS difference and how we support student learning. Parents who are enrolling students are able to go to the school website to complete enrolments.
If parents know of any parents interested in joining SIPPS in 2023, please encourage them to make contact with the school office for further information and support.
Parent survey Term 2
We are almost half-way through 2022 and the Executive team would really appreciate your feedback on how SIPPS students, families and school are settling back into more normal pre-Covid activities. A survey will go home to all families on Monday next week for family input. If you could please take the time to complete the survey. I will share the overall key points in a newsletter early next term and provide an update to the P&C for Term 3. Thank you in advance for the time taken to share your thoughts.

Many happy children abounded on the Sausage Sizzle Day. Thank you to the P&C for your enthusiasm and organisation in all the cooking and clean up on the day.
Band Eisteddfod
The senior band, escorted by Kate from Action Music, achieved a highly commended 4th place in their first Eisteddfod. The students and Kate were very pleased considering the calibre of the competition. Thank you to Mrs Druce and Mrs Bennet who transported students on the day. We are very proud of our band ensemble and their achievement.

Gold Medal Morning Tea

Great excitement for the students and parents who were treated to an informal party at the Gold Medal Morning Tea.
SIPPS Parents
SIPPS parents are welcome on site prior to the 9:05am school bell. You may escort your child/ren to their classroom or visit the school office to seek assistance. After school if you are collecting your child/ren from an activity you may enter the school grounds, however, you are not able to wait in the synthetic grass, play equipment or Hall COLA areas as these are utilised by the Helping Hands service each day.
Please make appointments to see your child’s class teacher for face-to-face meetings. All class teachers are still escorting classes to the gates each afternoon.
Thank you to our SIPPS families for all your support during the Covid-19 restricted access times.
Reporting to Parents
Teachers complete formal written reports to families twice per school year. Teachers are currently busy completing Semester 1 reports which will be issued to parents and carers on Wednesday 29th June, 2022.
Reports are a summary of your child's progress for each semester. The majority of students are expected to achieve the sound level on school reports. Achievement is assessed and identified across the five bands which include:
Outstanding
High
Sound
Basic
Limited
Effort rating in 2022 on reports is reported in three levels.
It is vital that all students know that there is always more to learn, and that learning is a journey throughout their lives.
Successful, Lifelong Learners!

Kindergarten and Stage 1 PDH News
This term in PDH lessons, Kindergarten and Stage 1 classes are learning about how to live healthy, safe and active lifestyles.
Kindergarten have been developing a better understanding of eating a healthy, balanced diet and drinking plenty of water to help keep their bodies and minds healthy. They created a group poster showing healthy foods with broccoli and apples being a firm favourite among the class. This is now on display in their classroom as a visual reminder.
Stage 1 have been focusing on a variety of ways to lead a healthy lifestyle, such as getting plenty of sleep; eating a balanced, healthy diet; personal hygiene; talking about their feelings and getting regular exercise. Each 1/2 class created a group poster for their classroom showing how they can stay healthy. Students were very excited to join in discussions about how much exercise and sports they are involved in during the week and what healthy food they eat at home. Students were also very interested to talk about the importance of sleep and how many hours they should be sleeping every day.
In previous lessons the students have also enjoyed creating a group flower poster all about their personal strengths. The students had a very positive experience thinking about what their strengths are and what areas they might want to improve further.

Art

Kindergarten
In their weekly art lesson Kindergarten students are continuing to develop their fine motor skills by painting, drawing, gluing and sticking. Recently they have been creating a variety of artwork using a range of materials and drawing media. All students have been improving their understanding of pattern by drawing and painting different types of patterns, such as zigzags, wavy lines and using shapes to create repeat patterns.
They have created fabulous robot collages and added patterns using permanent markers to add interest and detail. They continued to develop their collage skills by creating a 'flower in a vase' artwork, where they created the flowers using bingo paint dabbers. All the students are keen and excited to come up to the art room every Friday and are enjoying creating some wonderful artwork.
Some artworks will go into the yearly art exhibition, which will be on display at The St Ives Shopping Village in September.

Band
On Friday the 10th of June, the Senior Band went to Chatswood Concourse to perform at an Eisteddfod between 10 different schools in NSW. The theatre was really substantial, and we had to perform in front of the audience, who were instrument tutors, conductors, or parents from different schools as well as the judges.
We were feeling a bit highly strung with nerves but were also excited. It felt like we were in an orchestra! We could tell that our peers in the band were pretty nervous too, because we heard them shaking their instruments before we started to play. Both songs were well played and afterwards we watched the other schools playing.
We celebrated outside while having recess, we came 4th place! All the schools sounded fantastic. When we heard that SIPPS came 4th place, we were really excited, and we came to the stage to get our certificate from the judges. Kate (who is our conductor) said she was really proud of how we played and how well we have rehearsed leading up to the performance!
We feel like the Senior Band should perform again in the future.
Avnita and Ryan (Band captains)
Senior Band was super excited to attend the Eisteddfod last Friday. They were group number 2 out of 10 ensembles.
Our new band folders are ready and waiting for our first performance in a concert hall.
The band’s last performance at Ryde Civic Centre was just under three years ago.
Junior Band This week we commenced the Queen’s famous song ‘We Will Rock You’.
