SIPPS School Improvement Plan
Schools are now in the implementation stage of the School Plan where we implement and monitor the initiatives for each term.
As part of the planned initiatives it is really important that when the school sends you out a SIPPS survey that our parents you do participate in the gathering of information as this supports all our staff in meeting our responsibilities in the plan.
The parent survey regarding the Parent-Teacher Interviews in Term 1 provided staff with feedback regarding the process. Importantly, our community has indicated interviews need to be more than 10 mins and this will become part of 2022 planning. Overall parents were appreciative of the detail provided in the timeframe.
The Mathematics Association of NSW (MANSW) representative Fiona Foley continues to work with our teachers to plan Number Talks and Rich Tasks into the refined scope and sequence in Mathematics across the school.
In the last fortnight the teachers have met as part of their teams which support the initiatives in the School Improvement Plan: Wellbeing, PBL, High Performance and Gifted Education (HPGE) and Community Connections.
This week the Director Educational Leadership visits SIPPS on Friday to gauge and discuss our school’s progress against the plan.
D Block Toilet Renovation
The SIPPS P&C and school jointly applied for and achieved to have the D Block toilets renovated. The Department has now commenced the renovations, which are anticipated to take eight weeks. As indicated in my email last Thursday 3rd June, play spaces have changed for the interim renovation weeks.
Reporting to Parents
Reports are a summary of your child's progress for each semester. Reporting to parents consists of Term 1 Parent/Teacher Interviews, written reports twice a year and further ongoing detail through requested interviews or meetings. The majority of students are expected to achieve the sound level on school reports.
Teachers complete formal written reports to families twice per school year. Teachers are currently busy completing Semester 1 reports which will be issued to parents and carers on Wednesday 23rd June, 2021.
While reports are written for parents and carers, please discuss with your child/ren their areas of strength and areas for future focus and revision as they move forward in their learning. Report time should not be an anxious time but a time for all involved in your child’s education to reflect on his/her progress and to set new and achievable goals for next term. It is important that all students know that there is always more to learn and that learning is a journey throughout their lives.

Tennis – Primary School Challenge - Congratulations
Tennis teams at SIPPS entered a recent competition amongst local primary schools. Our teams included Fraser and Harry P, Lachlan and Henry M, Henry G and Rhys, Daniel R-F and Sameer L. The boys report that although the competition was tough between schools on the day, it was an enjoyable experience.
Three of the teams entered were the WINNERS of the entire competition. So a big congratulations to Lachlan and Henry M, Henry G and Rhys , Daniel R-F and Sameer L and their coach Mark Geffen. They will be awarded their trophies at the Week 10 assembly.

The Great Aussie Bush Camp – Year 5 & 6 by Hal Cassisi-Nichols - School Captain
It was definitely one of the best camps I personally have ever been to. With Giant Swings, Sand Dunes, Mud Runs and much, much more. This amazing camp thrills you by pushing your comfort zone, challenging you and making it the best time of your life! A three-hour bus ride to your destination gives a startling opportunity for a sleepy nap and conversation. Arriving, you meet your main instructor who makes you aware of your surroundings, the rules and advisements you need to follow and basically your cabins, groups and how everything works. Our instructor’s name was Dan with his fellow instructors, Kaia and Elloise. We hopped off our bus and rushed to a sitting of huge tree logs in which he told us everything we needed to know. After the instructions he told us to quickly bring all luggage to the cabins and just to dump it on the chosen bed. Coming back out, he settled us and took us to lunch. In the mess hall we helped ourselves to amazing burgers with our choice of salad and drink then we seated ourselves and tucked into the amazing meal. After lunch, we prepared for the first activity in which group 2 (my group) started off with orienteering. Our instructor Kaia told us that we used compasses to find out certain objectives and markings by setting a bearing, then metre into the compass. Unfortunately, the group of 5 that I was part of didn’t manage to solve the riddle at the end which was pretty disappointing. After the first activity, all groups come to a meeting tent/building where we are given delicious snow cones to eat on our way back to our campsite. Finishing snow cones, we went on to our next activity (which was bush craft for group 2) and then made our way altogether to our campsite. Dinner came next with a delicious helping of spaghetti bolognaise with garlic bread. After that scrumptious meal we made out way back to camp where we changed and entered shower hour (an hour in which we shower) then changed and got ready for the night time activity.
Commando, which was the night activity, was probably one of the best activities there. It was where we got into groups and tried to infiltrate through the bush to get one of 6 golden bricks. There’s a catch, if a teacher spotted you with their torch then you had to give up your life token and make your way back again to retrieve another one.
After a night’s rest, we woke up at 7.30am and proceeded to change and go to breakfast. Breakfast was a wonder of joy and tastefulness with baked beans, scrambled eggs, cereal and much, much more. The main highlight of the trip was Giant Swing or Mud Run. The Giant Swing was a 12-metre-high swing with harnesses and winches that got you up there. It was so exhilarating and scary, so that it was a shame we only got one turn. Mud Run was an army assault course in waist deep mud, the most fun assault course I’ve ever experienced. Camp continued with more activities and joy, although I won’t spoil them for you in case you ever go there. To sum it all up, the Great Aussie Bush Camp was the best ever!

Kindergarten/Stage 1
Early Stage 1 and Stage 1 have been spending time to doing number talks this term. We have been talking about numbers and sharing our ideas. By sharing our ideas we get to listen to how our friends make sense of numbers. We are building flexibility, efficiency and accuracy in mathematical thinking.

2021 SIPPS P&C Voluntary Contribution
The SIPPS P&C is passionate about supporting our school to improve the infrastructure and resources for your children. This year they have made it simpler to help, by splitting contributions into instalments by Term via the school's quarterly invoice. Whilst the school voluntary contribution supports resources in the classroom, the P&C voluntary contribution supports additional resources and facilities around the school, as outlined in the P&C flyer. Thank you in advance.
