Gymnastics - Eloise and Charlotte
On the weekend my sister and I had a gymnastics competition in Newcastle. We do artistic gymnastics which means we compete on four apparatus that includes floor, uneven bars, beam and vault. On the floor we do routines with dance and skills in time with music. On beam we do routines with dance and skills on bars, we do many tricks and swings. On vault we usually sprint, then jump onto the spring board and go into a handstand and either fall onto our backs or onto our feet.
At presentation the top six are awarded medals or ribbons for each apparatus. Trophies are awarded to the gynmasts who score in the top ten. After the first competition of the year I am very proud of my sister and I.

National Young Leaders Day
Our leadership team had a wonderful day in Darling Harbour where they were privileged enough to hear four inspiring speakers talk about the challenges they have overcome to achieve some amazing things. Here are some of their thoughts on the day.
Mrs Field
Going to Young Leaders Day was an exciting experience. I was very grateful to be able to learn about others' lives and how they have overcome challenges to achieve their dreams. David Campbell taught me a lot about how I can become a leader and become a person who can understand how to work things out. I will remember this experience from my last year of primary school.
Maya D
One of my favorite parts of young leaders day was the badges because they inspired me to encourage myself. The halogen pin was my favorite one because it gave me fond memories and lifelong lessons. I will never forget the lesson and the mottos I have learnt.
Eva K
I really enjoyed young leaders day and I had a great time. My highlight for me was Jimmy Rees, who was the actor in Giggle and Hoot. I really enjoyed listening to him because I grew up watching his show. He is a great role model. He inspired me and I hope to be a kind, funny person when I am older. I was so grateful that I was lucky enough to be able to attend.

Stage 3
Stage Three found learning about Earth’s place in Space a fascinating and engaging Science topic. Students worked very hard to produce dioramas and presentations of a feature of our solar system. Projects ranged from the planets including: Saturn, Neptune, Mars, Venus, Mercury and Jupiter to Hayley’s Comet and the Perseverance which landed on Mars. Everyone was very impressed with the calibre of work shared. Students considered which facts would be interesting for others to find out about and how they could present these in a way that others could relate to and understand. They can be very proud of their work.

ART
Visual Art News
After a very colourful and wonderful Term 1 in the art room, where every student developed their understanding of colour and colour mixing. All stages have now moved on to different projects.
Stage 3
Year 5 and 6 students are learning about one point perspective and creating their very own art gallery. They have drawn a room using one point perspective and are now adding their own and famous artwork to complete their gallery, this artwork will be finished using watercolour and coloured pencil. The students seem to be really enjoying this project with lots of students coming along to the art room at lunch to continue with their work, which is very exciting to see! I have attached some images of their initial drawings.
Stage 2
Year 3 and 4 students are also developing their knowledge of one point perspective and are creating their own landscape. They have all drawn a landscape using one point perspective and will be completing these using water colour and coloured pencil. This is a tricky topic to understand, but the students have risen to the challenge and are all developing their understanding and giving it a really good go!
I look forward to putting examples of this work up in the exhibition later in the year. I have attached an image of the planning stage.
Stage 1 & Kindy
All Kindy, year 1 and year 2 students are being inspired by the work of Joan Miro. They have discussed the work as a group and created their own artwork and figure in his style. They will start to improve and develop their painting skills by completing this work with paint and crayon/oil pastels. They have found the work interesting to look at and have started to discuss what they see in the artwork and what they like or don't like about the artwork. We will continue to look at art by different artists throughout this term.

The SIPPS P&C is passionate about supporting our school to improve the infrastructure and resources for your children. This year they have made it simpler to help, by splitting contributions into instalments by Term via the school's quarterly invoice. Whilst the school voluntary contribution supports resources in the classroom, the P&C voluntary contribution supports additional resources and facilities around the school, as outlined in the P&C flyer. Thank you in advance.
