Principal’s Message

Thank you so much for the wonderful welcome I have had while I have been at St Ives Park Public School. What a warm and caring community you have. Ms English is back this week.

ROAD and PEDESTRIAN SAFETY

Please ensure that the pedestrian crossing on Acron Road is used at all times by your children and yourself. I have been on front gate duty and have seen many parents and children attempting to cross Acron Road - not at the pedestrian crossing. This can be very dangerous.

Also have your child exit the car from the rear passenger seat closest to the kerb. This is the safety door. The Safety Door sticker available at Transport for NSW is designed to be placed on the inside rear passenger door window of the car. It is a reminder to families that this is the safest door for children to use to get in and out of the car.

ATTENDANCE and LEAVE

Regular attendance at school is essential to assist students to maximise their potential. Schools, in partnership with parents, are responsible for promoting the regular attendance of students. If your child is absent from school you are required to contact the class teacher explaining the absence immediately. This can be done via the schoolzine app under Absences, or an email to the class teacher. If the absence is 3 or more days then a medical certificate is required.

Family holidays and travel are no longer considered under the Exemption from School Procedures. Families are encouraged to travel during school holidays. If travel is necessary, an Application for Extended Leave may need to be completed. Absences due to travel will be marked as leave and will contribute to your child ‘s total absences for the year.

NAPLAN - Years 3 and 5 Online

As children progress through their school years, it is very important that checks are made along the way to see how well they are learning the essential skills of reading, writing and mathematics – skills that will set them upon the path to success as adults.

NAPLAN is a point-in-time assessment that allows parents to see how their child is progressing in literacy and numeracy against the national standard and compared with their peers throughout Australia. At the classroom level, NAPLAN provides additional information to support teachers’ professional judgement about student progress. All students in Years 3 and 5 sit the NAPLAN assessments. As part of the transition to online NAPLAN testing the students in Years 3 and 5 will complete online practice tests in weeks 9 and 10.

In 2021 NAPLAN dates are:

Stage 3

Miss Emerson and Mrs Field were very happy with the Meet the Teacher turnout last week!

Thank you to all the parents who attended.

The main takeaways of the evening were:

  • All homework, including projects, are on Google Classroom
  • Attendance, at school, is vital, if your child is going to be absent please email the school or one of us as soon as possible.
  • Encourage a positive mindset in your child
  • Differentiation is occurring within our classrooms for both support and extension
  • SIPPS has entered a new School Plan phase.
Our 2021 - 2024 goals are in the areas of:
    - Student Growth and Attainment
    - Quality Practice to Enhance Student Learning
    - Connection and Wellbeing

Stage 3 are enjoying a unit of shared reading based around the themes of belonging and connection including high quality engaging texts such as The Little Refugee, My Culture and Me and The Dot. As an extension to this, we have explored The Dot by experimenting with all the things our own dot could evolve into.

ART - Whole School Lego Figure Project

All students from Year 1 to 6 were tasked with designing a Lego figure for a whole school display, which has been put up in the art classroom. The students really enjoyed getting creative with their figure and I think you'll agree that they look fantastic all together. It has been great this week seeing the students looking to try and find their own Lego figure up on the wall and being so pleased with the end result. Well done SIPPS students for another amazing whole school piece of artwork!!
