Principal’s Message
Dear Parent and Carers,
Welcome back to Term 4, 2020. Already students and staff are diving into their Term 4 units and learning. All parents should have received their term 4 learning overview for each stage late last week. Please email the office or your child’s teacher if you did not receive this information. Student learning will be assessed and teachers will combine individual, small group and whole grade assessments to identify student improvement and areas for ongoing learning. Reports will go home to families on Wednesday 9th December 2020.
Artwork in the community
Our dedicated and innovative Mrs Stone has been encouraging and engaging all our SIPPS students in the work of art making and art appreciation throughout 2020.

The artistic students at SIPPS have been guided in their exquisite art making and would love all our parents to see the art work on display at St Ives Shopping Village.
Welcome Back to Mrs Hayllar
I hope all our families will welcome Mrs Hayllar back from her maternity leave. Mrs Hayllar will be returning to her substantive Assistant Principal role and working Mondays and Tuesday at SIPPS. In Term 4, Mrs Hayllar will be working with me to complete the School Planning for the next four year teaching and learning cycle.
Shade Sail Installation
The shade sail over the playground equipment is underway. Thank you to the SIPPS P&C, led by Mrs Druce, who have been able to enable this initiative which will benefit all our students.
It was very exciting in the holidays to see the holes being drilled prior to the installation of the poles. It was hoped that the new structure would have been fully installed before the commencement of Term 4, however it is expected to be completed by the end of October. Students are safe to walk around the safety fencing. Students are currently supervised at break times between the main quadrangle, COLA and oval locations which was successful during Week 1 this term.
Professional Learning @SIPPS
Continuing the network professional learning for staff in Term 4, Terry Hills Public School and SIPPS will collaborate on numerous occasions.
Week 1: last week the SIPPS and THPS Executive teams joined via Zoom to explore Evaluative Practices in teaching and learning.
Week 2: SIPPS and THPS staff will again consider student writing samples to ensure Consistent Teacher Judgement prior to report writing.
Week 3: SIPPS and THPS staff teams will gather together for ‘socially distanced’ learning focussing on Evaluative Practices and teaching and learning programs.
Week 3: SIPPS and THPS Executive will participate with staff from a range of local primary schools exploring visible learning and collaboration with John Hattie. This will lead nicely into areas for development in the new school plan.
School Plan 2021-2024 – St Ives Park PS
In the coming weeks all families will have the opportunity to identify the areas and directions they would like to see the school move towards in the new planning cycle. This information will be gathered using surveys which will be shared with all families. The executive staff at SIPPS will also engage with parents at the gate and in transit to encourage as much sharing of ideas to inform our planning processes.
In Term 3 staff were asked to identify their ideas regarding curriculum and pedagogy directions via a DoE survey. This data is leading to the information and directions which will be shared with our school community.
All staff have viewed the videos from the DoE regarding the CESE research paper What Works Best which outlines the key teaching directions and practices which also align with the School Excellence Framework. These practices will underpin the school planning moving into 2021 to 2024.
Social Media and children
Social media can be a challenging space for children and they require support to interact with most platforms successfully. it is recommended for parents to engage in your child’s online activities and discuss the types of apps, games and websites they are participating in and that they are age appropriate. Encourage your child to discuss with you anything upsetting they find online and support them to report these items.
School Psychologist
Ms J Cheok is our school psychologist at SIPPS in 2020. Her Term 4 allocation has changed and she will be at SIPPS on Mondays during Term 4. Should you have a concern regarding your child’s learning please contact your child’s class teacher who will follow school procedures and referral processes.
Selective High School application process 2022
All Year 5 families were provided with the Intention to apply for Year 7 placement in a selective high school in 2022 information flyer at the end of Term 3. The application website opened on October 6 2020 and closes on 9 November 2020. All applications are online only and parents will need to complete the application. If you intend to apply, please complete the tear off slip and return this to the office before 9 November 2020.
Opportunity Class Assessments
Students enrolled in the Opportunity Class Placement Tests will participate in these assessments at SIPPS on November 18. Due to Covid Guidelines the assessment dates and organisation structures have changed in 2020.
Canteen co-ordinator change – Caretaker mode
Thank you to Mrs Robson who has so successfully co-ordinated and managed the SIPPS Canteen on behalf of the P&C throughout 2020. This has been a very challenging role, considering the changing Covid guidelines. I would like to wish Mrs Robson well as she moves into an exciting new role beyond the school.
As there is to be a change of Co-ordinator for Term 4, the canteen will be closed for handover and stocktake on Monday 19th October and will reopen for orders on Monday 26th October, 2020. Mrs Barnes will be taking on the role for the remainder of 2020. Thank you to the parents who have offered to assist in the canteen throughout the term.
Tell Them From Me survey closes …. we need to hear from you!
As mentioned in the previous SIPPS newsletter, the Tell Them From Me survey closes this week on 23rd October, 2020. This survey offers parents the opportunity to share their thoughts on the teaching, learning and facilities at St Ives Park Public School. Please take the time to complete the survey. This is an external survey and is different to the School Planning surveys listed above.
In 2019 I reported back to our community the highlights and areas for consideration in the newsletter. This will occur again for the information provided in 2020.

Successful Lifelong Learners
Kindergarten
This is an exciting final term for Kindergarten Rainbow. We continue to learn our sounds and letters daily (there has been such big improvements with our reading and writing). During Literacy time, we do daily reading and play a range of literacy games to help with our spelling, handwriting and phonics recognition. We will have lots of fun learning to write interesting narratives based on Fairy Tales.
In Mathematics we will do lots of number work, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division as well as measure the mass of objects and investigate the properties of 2D shapes. We work as a whole class, in pairs and small groups to play lots of games to help us learn as well as recording our learning in our Maths books.
In Science we look forward to learning about living things and how we can care for them. In Geography, we will be continuing to learn about places around us, how they are different or the same and about the important features of these places.
Sports lessons are still on Tuesday (when we have Got Game or dancing) and Fridays we practice our fundamental movement skills as a whole class. We have our music lessons on a Tuesday and Art lessons on a Friday and remember to bring your library bag on Fridays as we have library after lunch!!!
We are looking forward to a busy Term 4.
Mrs Underhill
Stage One
Welcome to Term 4. We hope that you all managed to have some quality time with your children over the break.
Please note that Sports days remain the same – Tuesday and Friday. Topic talk days/weeks are also the same as last term. Topics will be handed out in person as well as uploaded to Google Classroom within the next few days.
May we please ask for you to replenish, where necessary glue sticks and whiteboard markers? Your child should be able to tell you if they need new/additional supplies.
Once again, daily home reading is extremely important to build fluency and accuracy as well as to further develop comprehension skills. Students work in class to build strategies and need to read regularly in order to consolidate these skills.
A full welcome to Term 4 parent letter will be sent shortly. This will go into greater detail with regard to each Key Learning Area as well as important dates for the term.
Ms Mills, Mrs Cippolone, Mrs Took
Stage 2
Well here we are! We’ve all made it! Term 4! We hope all the students and families had a well-rested break and are ready to take on our busy Term 4. We would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to the families who assisted with covering our wonderful new reading resources. Thank you for taking time out of your already busy schedules to assist in this way, it is greatly appreciated.
Our exciting term will consist of continued learning, along with assessments of the children’s learning. We encourage a good night’s sleep and plenty of time outside to assist the children through this term. We are looking forward to some fun activities such as Book Week, SIPPS Spectacular and end of year celebrations.

Art
Art Exhibition 2020
It's the most exciting time of the year in the art room when we get to celebrate the students achievements by exhibiting their wonderful artwork in the gallery space at St Ives Shopping Village. The art exhibition will run from Monday 12th October until Sunday the 25th October. It would be wonderful if you get a chance to visit the exhibition to help celebrate the amazing artwork that the students create here at SIPPS. I know the students are very excited that their work will be on display to the public and are looking forward to showing it off to family and friends.

Book Week Book Parade
Thursday 22nd October, 2020
Book Week is an exciting event on the school calendar. It is a great opportunity to celebrate books and reading.
SIPPS students will be celebrating Australian Children’s Book Week on Thursday 22nd October (Term 4: Week 2).
There will be a Book Parade in stage groups on 22/10/20 commencing at 09.30am. This event will comply with current Covid-19 restrictions.
All students are invited to dress as a curious creature or book character from their favourite book. Students can wear their basic curious creature/ book character costume to school and bring any extra props with them (hat, wig…). There will be time for these props to be added to the individual student’s costume, prior to the Book Parade.
Students will need to carry a copy of the book or a sign with their character/curious creature’s name.
No “onesies” or full head masks, please.
PLEASE NOTE: Unless the Department of Education notifies us of any changes to the COVID19 restrictions, this will be a student only event. No parents or carers will be permitted to attend. We will, however, endeavour to take lots of photos and/or videos to upload for you to be able to see your child parading in their costume.
We look forward to a fun day celebrating books and reading.
