Thinking of those in drought in Australia
It was wonderful to see so many farmers at school today. The SRC identified that they would again like to support our farmers in 2019 considering the lack of rain and the long term impact the drought is having across the country. Thank you to all our students and their families for participating in this fund raising event. The amount raised was $815.

Student Leadership Opportunities
All year 5 students will work on a school leadership program with Mrs Woodwell and myself in preparation for the 2020 Leadership Team opportunities here at SIPPS. It is important for students to understand the leadership responsibilities and challenges when striving for these important roles. The leadership information letters will go home today with our Year 5 students. After carefully reading the information, if your child would like to participate in the selection process, please jointly discuss the responsibilities and complete and return the form to the Office no later than 3:10pm Thursday 21st, November.
Living Positively – Peer Support
All students K-6 have been participating in our Peer Support program focusing on Living Positively. These topics build on classroom learning which focuses on trying in challenging situations to develop resilience and optimism for life-long learning skills and positive habits of mind. As the program is coming to a close, students will be sharing their thoughts about the program with the school to assist in planning for 2020.
Year 5 Maths Challenge Camp
Two of our students were invited to attend the Maths Challenge camp at Elanora Heights Public School recently. Two goals at Maths Challenge Camp included working like a mathematician and making a new friend. To work like a Mathematician, students needed to be able to reason, discuss and develop more than one answer or solution to mathematical problems. See Lachlan's report further into the newsletter.
2020 Enrolments
SIPPS is accepting enrolments for 2020. If you have a child who will be attending our school in 2020 and they are not yet enrolled, please contact the office to arrange enrolment. Kindergarten Orientation days for 2020 students begin tomorrow.

MATHS CHALLENGE CAMP 2019
On Monday the 4th and Tuesday 5th of November, I attended the Maths Challenge Camp held at Elanora Conference Centre.
The camp invited students from the Northern Beaches area who enjoy problem solving and mathematical challenges.
The attending students were divided into four groups named after famous Mathematicians; Escher, Fibonacci,Pascal and Plato.
During the two days I learnt about the Fibonacci sequence, Tessellations, Spiralaterals and so much more.
The passionate teachers at the camp encouraged the students to “ think like a mathematician “.
Thinking like a Mathematician involves:
- Defining the problem
- Collecting and organising data
- Seeking a pattern
- Hypothesising and testing
I really enjoyed challenging myself and meeting kids from other schools and making friends.

Last 2019 P&C Meeting + AGM
7:15pm, Wed 20 November in the staff room.
Please join us for the last P&C meeting of the year, where we'll also be voting in new members for 2020. A few of our wonderful committee members will be moving on next year, so we do need new recruits. Regardless of your skill set and availabilities, we value everyone's input and contribution. There are a variety of roles on the committee, as well as general members who contribute in a more informal way. This is the best way to get closer to the school, the principal, and other parents. Without more members, the P&C committee could fold - and with it all the social events and fundraising dollars we put into the school. Please do come along and find out what we are all about. Positions include:
- President
- Vice President
- Treasurer
- Secretary
- Marketing Officer
- Class Parent Coordinator
- Tennis Coordinator
- Grants Officer
- Uniform Shop Coordinator
- General committee members

P&C Voluntary Contribution
A sincere thank you to those who have paid their annual P&C Contribution. However contributions have been low this year. This is the P&C annual voluntary contribution ask and is different to the school term fees. This is our major fundraiser each year and funds projects such as the playground last year, shade structure for the playground this year, and we have further projects on the wish list such as an outdoor sound system and a new front entrance landscaping. We have included suggested amounts in the letter below, however please contribute whatever amount you can.
