Principal’s Message

Welcome Back to Term 4.

Our students have arrived back after the holidays ready for their final term of learning for 2019. It has been a busy week with Junior Choir attending their final rehearsal at Pymble Public School before their concert in Week 3.

Exciting News!

Congratulations to Callum G for his sensational achievement.

Callum, who represented SIPPS in the 8yrs 100m, achieved a personal best result in just over 15 seconds to come first at the Area carnival last week. Callum is now off to represent all the local schools at State level. We wish you every success and we have our fingers crossed for you!

Parents should receive their Term 4 class information brochure in the coming days if you have not received it already. These brochures have the term excursions and events listed for all our families. Please keep an eye out for these.

As we move into Term 4, students are working hard to demonstrate their learning and teachers will be writing reports throughout the term. Reports come home to families on Thursday 12th December, 2019. If you would like to have an individual update regarding your child, please contact the office to make an appointment or contact your child’s class teacher for an appointment.

There are two P & C meetings this term, the first in next Wednesday evening 23rd October at 7:15 in the staff room. I will provide a brief overview regarding the School Self-Evaluation process and the SIPPS NAPLAN 2019 results for those in attendance. All welcome and I look forward to seeing you there.

Looking forward to a happy final term of the 2019 school year.

Regards,
Caroline English
Principal

Peer Support

Our year 6 team have continued to deliver the Peer Support lessons to students across K-5 this term with great enthusiasm. Students continue to develop their understanding of optimism. Through small group activities, games and scenario based discussions students are learning to recognise how living with a positive attitude looks, sounds and feels. This enables students to lead meaningful lives with purpose and direction.

Thinking optimistically is a key protective factor which enhances students’ resilience and provides a buffer against challenging situations. Many students experience negative thoughts that rob them of the opportunity to participate in life as fully as they could. The teaching of positive self-talk helps students train themselves to identify positive and negative thought patterns and to self-correct ones which are not helpful.

Parents can support the Peer Support Program by discussing with their child the activities, concepts and understandings they are developing each week.

Stage 3 2020 BYOD Information session

On Tuesday 22nd October we will be providing an information afternoon for our 2020 Stage 3 parents. This session aims to keep parents up to date with current neuroscience research regarding technology and information regarding planning for SIPPS BYOD in 2020. Mrs Hayllar and I look forward to meeting with parents at 4:30 in the STEAM room.

School Travel - Term 4 2019

Stay up to date with Opal and ticketing changes for school travel

2020 school travel applications now open

To assist with any enquiries you may receive regarding student travel applications, we have provided some information below.

Applications for student travel in 2020 opened on Friday, 11 October 2019.

Students progressing to year 3 and year 7 no longer need to re-apply if they:

  • are continuing at the same school
  • are residing at the same address
  • have not been sent an expiry notification from Transport for NSW.

Where a student meets the new distance eligibility, the system will automatically update their entitlement. If they do not meet the new eligibility, they will receive an expiry notification via email.

Students who have an entitlement approved under a medical condition which is due to expire will receive a notification advising them to re-apply.

Term Bus Pass holders will receive a notification to re-apply.

If students need to update their information or re-apply, they should go online to this website:

https://apps.transport.nsw.gov.au/ssts/updateDetails

Applications need to be submitted before 31 December 2019 to ensure student entitlements are updated and their current entitlement/card is not cancelled. If their application is submitted after 31 December 2019, the system will automatically cancel an entitlement/card and a new one will need to be issued.

Students in the Opal network applying for a SSTS or Term Bus Pass entitlement for the first time will receive their card at their nominated postal address. Cards will be mailed out from January 2020.

Students residing in Rural and Regional (R&R) areas should receive their travel pass at the commencement of the new school year from their nominated operator, this may be distributed via the school or sent direct to their address. Note: some R&R operators do not issue travel passes. Students/Parents should confirm with their nominated operator if they do not receive a pass.

School travel application endorsements

It is not uncommon for applicants completing the online form to make mistakes, particularly entering their name or date of birth instead of the students. This may be due to an auto-fill function on a device or just human error. We ask that school administrators pay special attention to the information supplied by applicants which come through in the school portal. If the information supplied does not match your records or the student is not yet enrolled, please do not endorse the application. By selecting ‘no’ the application will be referred back to the applicant to correct and resubmit.

In the event that school administrators endorse in error, it would be appreciated if you could advise our SSTS team as soon as possible so the application can be intercepted before an Opal card or travel pass is issued.

To contact us about an endorsement error, please go to the website below and select feedback about: ‘school student transport scheme’ and then select ‘application updates’.

https://transportnsw.info/contact-us/feedback/passes-concessions-feedback

If school administrators require access to the school portal to endorse student applications, please request an account at this link:

https://appln.transport.nsw.gov.au/portal/requests/account/school

If you have staff that have left the school recently and had access to the school portal, please let us know at the link below and select ‘school/operator portal’ and then ‘remove existing user access’ so their access can be removed.

Sydney Light Rail update

The new Sydney Light Rail is due to open in December 2019. This means that students will be able to travel by light rail between Circular Quay and Randwick Junction (the Kingsford branch is due to open in March 2020).

From Monday, 14 October 2019, applicants will be able to select light rail as a mode for new applications. Eligible students will be able to travel for free to and from school or college on the new Sydney Light Rail from the beginning of the 2020 school year.

For students currently travelling on a School Opal card under the SSTS, there is no change. Students will still be able to tap on and off to travel on any mode of transport to get to or from school or college.

The Sydney Light Rail team will be in contact with schools in the area to provide further information.

Mail sent from the Stakeholder Liaison Team, Information and Ticketing Services - Transport for NSW.

Please do not reply to this email. Enquiries can be submitted at:

Next P&C Meeting

7:15pm, Wed 23 October in the staff room.

This is the last meeting before the AGM, and second last meeting for the year. A few of our wonderful committee members will be moving on next year, so we do need new recruits from the K-2 years. Regardless of your skill set and availabilities, we value everyone's input and contribution. There are a variety of roles on the committee, as well as general members who contribute in a more informal way. This is the best way to get closer to the school, the principal, and other parents. Without more members, the P&C committee could fold - and with it all the social events and fundraising dollars we put into the school. Please do come along and find out what we are all about.

Canteen Manager 2020

Our wonderful Canteen Manager Cori will be leaving the school next year as her daughter heads off to high school. We truly hope to keep the canteen operational but need 1 or 2 people to manage it, along with our army of shift volunteers. Please get in touch (stivesparkpc@gmail.com) if you are interested in finding out more. We know how much the kids and parents would miss this day off packed lunches!

Get your Personalised Pavers

Be a part of SIPPS history and get your family names paved into our new garden path! As part of our 50th birthday, there are plans to create a lovely new garden and path including personalised pavers of our school community. There are 2 design options – formal or a free style. If you look closely at the pavers on the picture you can see both. For freestyle – the children can write there names and draw a little picture – for those interested we will furnish more details of the process.

We are selling these pavers at $30 each or $50 for 2. Each paver allows for 48 characters. The display paver is at the office if you would like to have a closer look.

Typically pavers will either have the individual child's name “Cora Lily Reaper” maybe with the year they started at school “Cora Lily Reaper 2016” or just the family name “The Reaper Family 2015 ” or “Declan, Braedon & Cora Reaper 2015” etc.

This is open to anyone that attended this school – past or present – so please feel free to forward on to any of you friends who previously attended SlPPS.

Please feel free to mail bricks4SIPPS@gmail.com with any questions or to further your order. You can now pay on QRK.
