Term 3
Week 10

Term 3 has been a wonderfully busy and exciting term with many events and opportunities for our community to participate at St Ives Park PS. The Education Week and Book Week celebrations were wonderful events. This term was very special in terms of our 50th Birthday which was a particular highlight of the term.
Last Thursday we invited our 2020 Kindergarten students and families to participate in the SIPPS Teddy Bear’s picnic. Although the weather was not fabulous, there were many excited children who joined in the activities which were held in the hall. Thank you to Miss Mills and Mrs Woodwell for co-ordinating this event.
Also on this day, the school participated in the DET External Validation process. Two external principals from across the state joined Mrs Hayllar, Miss Emerson and myself to discuss the school’s progress according to the School Excellence Framework. This was a successful meeting with many highlights discussed and directions for 2020 and beyond.
Our school has been hosting many other events for a range of external audiences. We have had a visit by Ganeinu Pre-school students and staff, who were safely wearing their tiny high visibility vests for their walk to big school. Mrs Woodwell was able to catch up with former colleagues. Christ Church Pre-school will be visiting next term.
We have also hosted a Pittwater Network Principal meeting last week. Network meetings occur twice a term and provide opportunities for school leaders to gain valuable knowledge in regard to DET policy, practices. and ensure we all keep up to date to support our communities and students.
As our term draws to a close, the staff and I hope you have enjoyed the activities and celebrations throughout Term 3. We look forward to seeing many families at SIPPS for the SIPPS Spectacular tomorrow evening.
Students return in Full Summer uniform on MONDAY 14th October. There is no pupil free day at the beginning of Term 4. On behalf of the staff, may I wish you all a safe and happy holiday.
Stage 3 BYOD Information session
On Tuesday 15th October we will be providing an information afternoon for our Stage 3 parents. This session aims to keep parents up to date with current neuroscience research regarding technology and information regarding planning for SIPPS BYOD in 2020. Mrs Hayllar and I look forward to meeting with parents at 4:30 in the STEM room. If you are able to attend, please contact the office as a form of RSVP by Monday 14th October, 2019.
Enrolments 2020 – Note to all parents
This week all parents are again asked to indicate if their child will be returning to SIPPS in 2020.
As per the previous Patter, all families are asked to return their child/ren’s enrolment 2020 slip. This is vitally important for the school to be able to identify numbers of students for 2020. We receive our teacher allocation according to the numbers of students who are enrolled in our school. Please return the notes by 20th September, 2019.
Thank you to the many parents who have already completed and returned their forms.
NAPLAN - National Assessment Program: Literacy and Numeracy
Last week NAPLAN results for students in Years 3 and 5 went home to our families. These results add to the range of information our teachers collect regarding student learning, application and progress. If parents have any questions or would like any further information regarding their child, please contact your child’s class teacher for an interview. In 2020 SIPPS students will participate in the NAPLAN Online program.
At our P&C Meeting on 23rd of October, I will provide a brief overview of the NAPLAN results for Years 3 & 5. I will also outline the recent External Validation process and planning for future school initiatives. Parents are always welcome to join our P&C team at the meetings held at 7:15pm in the Staffroom.
Tell Them From Me 2019: Students, Staff and Parents
SIPPS surveys are open between the 14th and 23rd October, 2019
Our school, like many other public schools in the state, will participate in a Department of Education initiative: the Tell Them From Me survey. The survey measures factors that are known to affect academic achievement through wellbeing and other student outcomes. The focus of the NSW-wide survey is on student wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices.
More information about the survey is available at:
http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/
A consent form and FAQs for parents/carers about the survey was recently sent home with students. If you do not want your child or children to participate, please return the form to school before the 14 October. Copies of the form and FAQs are available from:
http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents
Another source of information is available through the following link:
https://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/images/FAQs/TTFM_Student_Survey_FAQs_Parent_and_Carers_T12019e.pdf
As some of our SIPPS students will be participating in the NAPLAN School Readiness Testing this term, we will complete the Tell Them From Me survey in early Term 4.
The Tell Them From Me: Parent survey (Term 3, 2019)
Early next term, our school will be participating in the Partners in Learning parent survey, another part of the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys (student, teacher and parent surveys) on student engagement.
The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement. Running this survey will help our school understand parents’ and carers’ perspectives on their child’s experience at school. These include: communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. This valuable feedback will help our school make improvements.
The survey is conducted entirely online on smartphones, iPads, tablets, laptops or computers. The survey will typically take 15 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. The parent survey will be conducted between 26 August and 25 October. Although participating in the survey is entirely voluntary, your responses are very much appreciated.
Our school will provide further information about how to access the survey. In the meantime, more information about the survey is available at:
http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/

Science Fun in 1/2 Red
This term, Stage 1 have been investigating marvellous mixtures in Science. Students have had the opportunity to create their own mixtures at home and bring them in to share with the class. In 1/2 Red we have enjoyed observing a homemade lava lamp, various bubbling potions, magical mixtures and storms in a glass. The class also mixed ingredients together to make chocolate crackles, which were eagerly devoured.
On Monday 16th September, Danny from Fizzics Education visited and the students participated in a number of hands on experiments including milk rainbows, skittle science and chromatography. By far the most popular experiment with the class was the explosion created when mentos and a bottle of coke were combined to produce a spurting tower of gas!

ART
Art Exhibition News
The SIPPS art exhibition is currently on display in the gallery space at St Ives Shopping Village and is looking absolutely wonderful. It is on display until Friday 27th Sept so please go along and have a look and join me in celebrating the hard work of our students. The students have been told the artworks displayed in the exhibition and there are lists on the classroom doors as well.
Thank you for your support,
Mrs Stone

Canteen Manager 2020
Our wonderful Canteen Manager Cori will be leaving the school next year as her daughter heads off to high school. We truly hope to keep the canteen operational but need 1 or 2 people to manage it, along with our army of shift volunteers. Please get in touch (stivesparkpc@gmail.com) if you are interested in finding out more. We know how much the kids and parents would miss this day off packed lunches!
Get your Personalised Pavers
Be a part of SIPPS history and get your family names paved into our new garden path! As part of our 50th birthday, there are plans to create a lovely new garden and path including personalised pavers of our school community. There are 2 design options – formal or a free style. If you look closely at the pavers on the picture you can see both. For freestyle – the children can write their names and draw a little picture – for those interested we will furnish more details of the process.
We are selling these pavers at $30 each or $50 for 2. Each paver allows for 48 characters. The display paver is at the office if you would like to have a closer look.
Typically pavers will either have the individual child's name “Cora Lily Reaper” maybe with the year they started at school “Cora Lily Reaper 2016” or just the family name “The Reaper Family 2015 ” or “Declan, Braedon & Cora Reaper 2015” etc.
This is open to anyone that attended this school – past or present – so please feel free to forward on to any of your friends who previously attended SlPPS.
Please feel free to mail bricks4SIPPS@gmail.com with any questions or to further your order. You can now pay on QRK.
P&C Voluntary Contribution
A sincere thank you to those who have paid their annual P&C Contribution. However contributions have been low this year. This is the P&C annual voluntary contribution ask and is different to the school term fees. This is our major fundraiser each year and funds projects such as the playground last year, shade structure for the playground this year, and we have further projects on the wish list such as an outdoor sound system and a new front entrance landscaping. We have included suggested amounts in the letter below, however please contribute whatever amount you can
