Principal’s Message
Spectacular SIPPS
This week sees the culmination of many weeks preparing for our SIPPS Spectacular performance showcase. Thank you to all the students, teachers and parents who have dedicated many additional hours planning and practising for this event. Over the years, it has become a highlight of the school calendar and a celebration of the excellent creative and performing arts opportunities SIPPS provides for its students.
This year we are asking for a $5 entry fee which will be used to purchase new sound equipment to enhance future performances at SIPPS. Thank you to our P&C who endorsed this proposal at last week’s P&C meeting. Best wishes to everyone performing tomorrow evening. I’m sure it will be a great night!
SIPPS Art Show
Congratulations to those students whose artworks have been hung in the SIPPS Art Exhibition at St Ives Shopping Village Gallery. We would like to thank the centre management for giving us exclusive use of the gallery space for the next two weeks. The exhibition showcases just a sample of the excellent artworks created by students. We acknowledge the outstanding work of Ann Stobo in establishing our excellent visual arts program and also thank parent volunteers Cori, Scott & Fiona for volunteering their time and expertise in the curation of our exhibition. We hope that everyone across our school community can take the opportunity to support the school by visiting the exhibition over the next fortnight.

Growing in Harmony Award
Last Thursday, I was delighted to be in attendance at NSW Parliament House to see 1/2 blue student, Erin receive a prestigious award. Erin was the Regional Winner in the 2018 Harmony Day primary Schools’ Poster Competition run by the Moving Forward Together Association. Each year this competition attracts thousands of entries and brings out the creativity and passion of school students motivated by a desire for a peaceful and inclusive society. Congratulations to Erin for this wonderful achievement.

SIPPS friendly debaters
Each year Stage 3 students participate in a series of friendly debates hosted by local primary schools. This year the teams have made a great start in developing their debating skills and acumen. Thank you to parents for their assistance in transporting the teams.

1/2 Red Father’s Day 3D Portraits
1/2 Red thoroughly enjoyed making portraits of their dads as a Father’s Day gift. They did an incredible job cutting, folding and gluing paper to create 3D faces. Many students were lucky enough to have their dads visit the classroom at the Father’s Day Breakfast and proudly presented them with their masterpieces.
When the students were asked what their dads thought of the portraits, this is what they had to say…
Dad thought it looked like him and he really liked it. He liked the tropical shirt because it reminded him of being on holidays. – Jess
Dad thought it was funny that I gave him brown eyes instead of blue. He thought it was remarkable. – Edie
It made my dad happy. – Alex and Elizabeth
My dad laughed at the ears and lips because they were so small. – Sameer
My dad really appreciated it. I told him how I made it. – Bailey
My dad said he really liked it because he was wearing a red top and that is his favourite colour. – Eloise
Dad really liked it because his top was blue and that is his favourite colour. – Alastair
My dad liked it because he was wearing a tie and he can’t afford a tie. – Justin
Dad liked it because I made his hair yellow instead of grey so it made it feel younger. – Chelsea
Dad liked the blue background because his favourite colour is blue. – Rhys

Notes from the Office
Intention to apply for Year 7 entry to a selective high school in 2020
Dear Parent/Carer
Selective high schools cater for high achieving academically gifted students who may otherwise be without sufficient classmates at their own academic and social level. These schools help gifted and talented students to learn by grouping them with other gifted and talented students, teaching them in specialised ways and providing educational materials at the appropriate level.
Applications for selective high school placement are considered mainly on the basis of the Selective High School Placement Test results and school assessment scores. The Selective High School Placement Test will be held on Thursday 14 March 2019.
If you would like to have your child considered for Year 7 selective high school entry in 2020, you need to apply on the internet using a valid email address (not the student’s email address).
Detailed instructions on how to apply online will be available from mid-September 2018 via the link below. The application website opens at that link on 9 October 2018 and closes on 12 November 2018. You must apply before the closing date.
https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-7
There are no paper application forms. If you do not have internet access, you could apply at a public library. If you have a disability that prevents you from using a computer, you can contact the Unit for assistance after 9 October 2018.
You must submit only ONE application for each student.
NAPLAN
2018 NAPLAN results were sent home to parents of Year 3 and Year 5 students last Thursday. NAPLAN results provide information to teachers and parents on what students know and can do.
Building Works
Building works have begun on our new playground. The area affected is the land in between the Hall and the Canteen and the building that houses the Library and the ¾ classrooms.
Fencing has been put in place to keep the children and general public safe.
THE BICYCLE RACK has been moved. It is now located along the pathway that leads off Woodbury Road, below the oval. During this time the bicycles will not be undercover, so if it rains the bikes will get wet.
TENNIS COURT ACCESS will also be affected. Please use the new Tennis Court gate which is to be located on the fence nearest the pathway to Woodbury Road. If entering through the school gates on Acron Road you will need to walk through the playground outside the office building, through the undercover way next to the Kindy building, behind the Library and then walk down towards the new Tennis Court gate.
If you have any queries regarding this matter please do not hesitate to contact the school office.
School Photos were sent home today with the students.

Please join us at the next meeting and find out what we're all about, before the AGM in a couple of months. If you would prefer some meetings to be held at 2:15pm (rather than 7:15pm) next year, please let us know.

Helping Hands OOSH & Vacation Care
A warm hello from the team at OOSH,
I hope you have had a fantastic term 3. I am writing to share some news, I am resigning from my role as coordinator at the end of this term. It has been a pleasure working at St Ives Park and getting to know so many of you. I have learnt so much in this role and have been so thankful for your patience, warmth and sense of humour as I have found my way. Some of my favourite memories that I will treasure from OOSH will be singing together with the ukulele, epic games of capture the flag, having our minds blown by science, sharing stories and seeing the many wonderful things SIPPs kids can do with a mere cardboard box!
Kids, I have been so proud watching you grow in confidence and friendship with one another.
I have great faith in the Helping Hands team at St Ives. They are remarkably creative, kind and love this community.
I wish you all the very best!
Yours sincerely,
Grace De Wet née Keegan
