Principal’s Message
Welcome back
Welcome back to Term 4 and the many and varied learning opportunities that will enable our students to grow and develop as successful lifelong learners. Welcome also to our new families who have joined us this term.
This term, teachers will be learning about the new Science and Technology K-6 syllabus. Considerable reflection upon our school’s scope and sequences for learning, and for our integrated units of learning relating to science, will be a feature of our weekly professional learning afternoons.

2019 planning
2019 planning is underway. Thank you to all those parents who have let me know that they are relocating at the end of this year. Kindergarten Orientation program for 2019 commences next week, and letters of offer have been sent to all families of those who have enrolled by the deadline and been accepted under our enrolment policy. We are still getting the occasional walk-in for enrolment, so if you know of any Kindergarten 2019 who has not been enrolled yet, please ask the family to urgently contact the office.
School Uniform
It was great to see students came back to school doing their Personal Best and proudly wearing their summer uniforms.
Please remember to support the wellbeing of your child by ensuring that they wear black leather school shoes with their summer uniform. Leather shoes are more water resistant and protective than other materials.

Assessment and Reporting
Semester 2 assessment and reporting processes are underway. Semester 2 reports will be sent home to parents on Friday December 14. Students have re-focussed well towards achieving their learning goals in their first week back at school. Please remember the importance of full-time and on-time school attendance so that all students have the best chance to benefit from a complete year of teaching and learning across the curriculum. This also includes opportunities to demonstrate their learning for assessment and reporting purposes. If your child is absent from school for whole or part of a school day, please ensure that the class teacher receives a note within 7 days to explain the absence. Alternatively parents can use the absentee form on the schoolzine app.

Selective High School
Applications for selective high school placement are now open. Parents apply when the student is in Year 5. The students sit the test in March of Year 6. Next year, the Selective High School Placement Test will be held on Thursday 14 March 2019.
If you would like to have your child considered for Year 7 selective high school entry in 2020, you need to apply on the internet using a valid email address (not the student’s email address).
The link is:
https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-7
The application website is now open and closes on 12 November 2018. You must apply before the closing date. There are no paper application forms and you must only submit ONE application for each student.
Best wishes for a great term!

Seed, Harvest, Spoon
The Seed, Harvest, Spoon program has started and Stage 1 and Stage 2 classes enjoyed their first opportunity last week to prepare garden beds prior to planting summer crops. I can’t wait to see what they grow this season. Welcome to Kim who is delivering this year’s program.

Next P&C Meeting and AGM - Wed 21 Nov
The last P&C meeting + AGM for 2018 - we need you!
Some of our hard working P&C Exec, Canteen and Uniform Shop Co-Ordinators will no longer be able to remain in their roles next year. That means our Uniform Shop and Canteen are in danger of closing. We are here to handover and train, and there are plenty of volunteers to help out. But we need Co-Ordinators to manage them.
Please come along to the meeting to find out more, put your hand up for a role, or just participate in the general meeting. It is a great way to meet people, have your say and know more about what goes on in the school. See you there.

Helping Hands OOSH & Vacation Care
A warm hello from the team at OOSH!
We are enjoying settling into our new routines and trying exciting new activities.
Recently, we have enjoyed a fun (but wet!) Vacation Care filled with crafts, fun games and even a trip to the Zoo. The highlight of the holidays was a Claymation incursion, where the children moulded and shaped clay into an animals. We recently painted these to bring them to life! We have also enjoyed a visit from the energetic Emily from "Got Game". Emily put the children through a dynamic obstacle course that tested their endurance, flexibility, stability and strength. They tumbled, jumped and leaped through the air as Emily guided them through each station. Brandon said that the highlight of his holidays was ‘Wheels Day’, where the children had the opportunity to bring their scooters and bikes to school. They rode their bikes to the covered Cola and created an obstacle course for their vehicles to go through. The rain did not stop their fun! The children expressed a wonderful sense of pride when they were able to weave around the cones on the obstacle course.
Over the holidays we welcomed Kirsty Barrett to our team. Kirsty is studying Social Work at the University of Sydney and is excited to get to know the kids at St Ives Park. She loves making crafts with the kids and has already made paper rockets on Monday.
We are looking forward to a fun term filled with different activities, colouring in competitions, survival tag on the oval and air-hockey competitions.
