Principal’s Message
Quality team that teach the future
Our inspirational teachers have worked hard to ensure that Semester 1 reports truly reflect the abilities of every student at SIPPS. Thank you to all staff for their dedication, time and energy in creating such detailed and meaningful reports for all students in their class. Semester 1 reports will be issued to all students tomorrow afternoon. I would also like to congratulate every one of our students for the successful achievement of their Semester One learning goals.
Dance performance
Best wishes to the dance team performing at Glenn Street this evening and tomorrow night in the Sydney North Dance Festival. I look forward to attending Tuesday night’s performance. Thank you to Mrs Shanahan for choreographing the routine and donating personal time after hours to manage students for both evening performances.
NAIDOC Week - ‘Because of Her We Can’
NAIDOC Week 2018 celebrates the invaluable contributions that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women have made and continue to make – to our communities, our families, our rich history and to our nation. The following artwork of tarmunggie-woman by Cheryl Moggs portrays the courage and resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women. ‘From the ripples of fresh water and salt water, across the travel pathways and song lines of our traditional lands and skies.’
NAIDOC occurs during the school holidays, however we commenced our celebrations at SIPPS last week with a special Musica Viva performance from Wyniss, a Torres Strait Song and Dance group. Thank you to Mrs Cronin for delivering to our students the program of learning that preceded the concert. By comparing their own childhood games to those from the remote Torres Strait, students learnt the importance of traditions, and to be thankful to those who teach them. For more information about the performers or the program please see the following link.

This week those students who have received a SIPPS Gold medal this term will enjoy celebrating with their families at a special morning tea hosted by me in the staffroom. Congratulations to Jamie, Julia and Olivia for successfully and consistently demonstrating our school’s expectations of Respect, Responsibility and Personal Best.

Public Speaking
Once again our debating team defeated their competition in last week’s round of interschool competition. Congratulations to the team who argued the negative case on the topic: We should donate to Australian charities rather than overseas charities.
Well done to Evie, Bella, Isobel and Amy for representing SIPPS at the local final of the Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition last week at Beaumont Rd PS. All prepared and impromptu speeches were of a very high standard this year. Congratulations to all our girls.
Sydney North Cross Country
Congratulations to Alex P who finished 9th out of 72 competitors in the 8/9 boys 2km division at last week’s Sydney North Cross Country at Gosford Racetrack.
Futsal Fever
Coinciding with the Soccer World Cup was the NSW Futsal Schools Regional Tournament at Dural. For the first time SIPPS sent four teams to compete in this tournament. Thank you to Mr Dimmers for coaching our teams and to parents for transporting students. The skills and teamwork of our students were impressive and our senior girls’ team got through to the semi-finals which was an outstanding first-time achievement.

Successful Lifelong Learners
3/4 Blue Bin Audit:
On Tuesday 3/4 Blue did a bin Audit as part of our sustainability unit. At the bin Audit our job was to count how many pieces of rubbish there was in our playground bins.
As a class we predicted that there would be more lolly wrappers than any other rubbish. We were surprised because we found more rubbish than expected and not one of those was a lolly wrapper!
We discovered that food scraps fill our bins the most, which made our work quite smelly. On our recent excursion to Kimbriki we learnt that half of our rubbish goes to landfill and can be recycled. As a class we discussed changing Waste free Wednesday to Waste Free Weekly.

Notes from the Office
Children's crossings
These are part-time crossings which operate just before and after school hours, as well as other times such as school excursions and lunch times. They are highlighted by red flags with the words CHILDREN CROSSING on them.
When the flags are displayed you must slow down and stop before the stop line if a pedestrian is on or entering the crossing. You must not proceed until all pedestrians have left the crossing.
You must not stop on or within 20 meters before or 10 meters after, a children’s crossing.
Combined children's and pedestrian crossing
Some pedestrian crossings are used as children’s crossings at some times during the day. The display of CHILDREN CROSSING flags means that the children's crossing is operating.
When the flags are not displayed the crossing operates as a normal pedestrian crossing.
Term 2 Fees
Just a friendly reminder that any Term 2 fees are now overdue. If you are currently overdue with your Term 2 fees, please check your child’s backpack as the fee statements will be coming home with your child this week.
