Principal’s Message
National Reconciliation Week
Each year at SIPPS, we acknowledge National Reconciliation Week (NRW). NRW celebrates and builds on the respectful relationships shared by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and other Australians. This year’s theme is ‘Don’t Keep History a Mystery’.
Our Stage 2 students will share a special presentation to acknowledge Reconciliation at this Wednesday’s K-6 assembly. Also on permanent display in our school hall from this week are the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags.
Got It! Parent Feedback
The Getting On Track in Time initiative is developing and supporting our students’ emotional intelligence and wellbeing. The Got It team would greatly appreciate if parents could take 2 minutes to complete their survey at the following link.

Celebrating Music at SIPPS!
I was delighted to see students in our Recorder Ensemble perform the recent Festival of Instrumental Music in the Concert Hall of the Sydney Opera House. It was a marvellous evening of music produced by many talented students and teachers from government primary and secondary school from all over New South Wales. I was extremely proud of how our students behaved and represented our school. Congratulations on a wonderful effort and performance.
Thank you also to Seb for playing piano at our K-6 assemblies. It is wonderful to witness the musical talents of our students.
Public Speaking Success
Students at SIPPS participate in a wide range of Public Speaking competitions. Programs in public speaking, debating and spelling teach students to develop oracy, teamwork, research, the ability to engage in contemporary issues, and the ability to respond to arguments and approach topics from unfamiliar perspectives.
Congratulations to our Stage 3 debating team, coached by Mrs Myburgh who won their second round debate last week.
Today we held the school finals of the Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition. Congratulations to winners Lily, Evie, Isobel and Amy who will represent SIPPS at the local schools’ final. Later this year all students will also take part in The Premier’s Spelling Bee.
Other public speaking and performance opportunities are provided to students during formal occasions such as our regular K-6 assemblies.

Inspiring & Nurturing Successful Lifelong Learners
On Wednesday, 23rd May, K-2 participated in National Simultaneous Storytime Day. On this day, schools across Australia read the same story at the same time. The book this year was called, 'Hickory Dickory Dash' by Tony Wilson. In Library lessons with Mrs Allman, each Kindergarten student made a clock with a mouse that moves up and down to complement the book. Each student across K-2 also received a special award for participating in this annual event.

Narrative Poetry 5/6 Blue
The Dragon Rider
By Liam
Flying high above the castles
With a golden saddle, a champion fighter
Beware, down there he’ll burn rotten rascals.
Sara, the fastest silverback dragon
Took her rider across the seven seas
To burn their ships and fend off pirates
A strapping force, bringing them to their knees.
Liam the famed and hardened ace archer
Found his dragon egg
He is the new marcher.
Ready for Winter
By Gabi
Bright green meadows, covered in fluffy white
snow
Crystals dangling from the trees.
Crunch, crunch the snow crackles
I take a single step – a footprint left behind.
The cold breeze blows – cheeks turn bright pink
One deep breath – smoke like ‘puffs’ of candyfloss.
Warmth!
Fire begins to crackle and pop
Golden sparks like fire works in the sky.
Marshmellows – golden and crisp
Rich, dark hot chocolate, steam rising from the comforting mug.
I’m ready for winter!
Soccer
By Andrew
There’re many different types of sport
But soccer is the best.
Better than Baseball – and all the rest.
Soccer is a game – don’t worry there’s no shame
If you win or lose – you’re still gonna get some praise!
At the end of the day – It may not have gone your
way.
Don’t worry –you still have another two halves to play!
Notes from the Office
Children's crossings
These are part-time crossings which operate just before and after school hours, as well as other times such as school excursions and lunch times. They are highlighted by red flags with the words CHILDREN CROSSING on them.
When the flags are displayed you must slow down and stop before the stop line if a pedestrian is on or entering the crossing. You must not proceed until all pedestrians have left the crossing.
You must not stop on or within 20 metres before or 10 metres after, a children’s crossing.
Combined children's and pedestrian crossing
Some pedestrian crossings are used as children’s crossings at some times during the day. The display of CHILDREN CROSSING flags means that the children's crossing is operating.
When the flags are not displayed the crossing operates as a normal pedestrian crossing.
The PSSA have an exciting way for parents and students to keep track of PSSA event and competitions.
