Principal’s Message

SIPPS - Cycling Central

On Wednesday 7th March, four mobius BridgeLane riders visited SIPPS as part of our Ride Safely to School Strategy. Peter Livingstone, Ben Metcalfe, Jesse Coyle and Aden Reynolds and team owner Tom Petty spoke to SIPPS students about their careers, how they became professional athletes, bike safety, teamwork and healthy eating. It is part of the team’s commitment and strategy to give back to the sport, share the spirit of cycling and inspire future generations of riders.

SIPPS students responded very positively to the presentation and asked very insightful questions. We thank Tom and the team for their presentation which was also a great preparation for the upcoming Stage 3 excursion to CARES (Community and Roads Education Centre).

Standing together to Build Respectful Relationships at SIPPS

Last Friday was the National Day of Action against Bullying. SIPPS students and teachers took the opportunity to imagine a world free from bullying and stand united to say that bullying in all forms is unacceptable. This year students received helpful resources to reinforce anti-bullying strategies taught in classrooms.

Last year you may recall that we sent over 200 woven stars to be part of the One Million Stars to end Violence installation at the 2018 Commonwealth Games on The Gold Coast. I will be taking some leave to travel to the Gold Coast to attend the games and I will look very carefully to see if I can find our stars there in the installation.

Next Wednesday we will once again focus on ways to Building Respectful Relationships at SIPPS through inclusion when we celebrate Harmony Day 2018.

We invite parents to be partners in this learning so we have included the following links that may be useful.

Inspiring & Nurturing Successful Lifelong Learners

At our school we aim to create a safe and supportive school community for everyone. Sometimes, it can be difficult for parents or carers to know what to do when their child talks to them about bullying.

You are an important part of our work to prevent bullying and to respond effectively if it happens. Stopping bullying involves everyone.

Imagine a world without Bullying – Class Pledges

Kindergarten students have promised to be ‘a buddy, not a bully’

5/6 Blue Class Pledge to eradicate Bullying

We pledge that we will not post photos or inappropriate things about other people without their permission and vow to never write hurtful or rude things about them. 5/6 Blue promise to stand up against bullies and refrain from being a bystander. We will always be kind and respectful, and say something positive about others or say nothing at all; thereby making St Ives Park a Bully-Free School.

5/6 Red pledges to only use positive language to everyone including teachers, parents, students and selves. We pledge to not tolerate bullying and we will stand up for others and not be bystanders. We will be buddies not bullies.

1/2 Blue pledge that we will be good friends by being kind and helping others. We will include everyone in our play and game activities at all times. Bullies are not allowed in this zone!

1/2 Red promise to be kind, only say nice things and include others everyday.

National Young Leaders Day

The room was filled with 5000 young leaders ready to learn and be inspired. We learnt a lot on the 12th of March like to stand up for others and to take action. Also to be yourself and follow you dreams. We can learn from this experience by doing something for 5 minutes every day that help changes the environment.

By Amy

On Monday, St Ives Park school leadership team travelled to the City to attend a National Young Leaders day. It was created to bring in very inspirational people to talk about their lives and what made them good leaders. Then we had to write about each one of them and what we think made them so inspirational, and how we could be like them. There were four speakers, the first one had lost his legs and his name was John Coutis. (I thought he was the best). Then we had Lauren Cheatle and she played for the Sydney Sixers. One of her quotes was ‘If it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you.’ Then we had recess and I bought a Halogen pin, students wear it because it is one of the brightest lights in the world. After we had come back in from recess we listened to another inspirational person. He had won The Voice and he had a stammer, his name was Harrison Craig. After we had listened to him we had lunch and went to a silent disco. Then it was time for the last speaker of the day, he is a writer that takes ordinary fairy tales and turned them into his own. They are guaranteed no sloppy kissing no princes and no happily ever afters!

Overall it was a very inspirational fun and exciting day. On our way back to the train Ms Tegg even bought us ice cream!! It was the best Monday ever.

On 12 March the leaders of our school and Mrs Tegg went to National young leader’s day at ICC. At ICC we saw some amazing people such as John Coutis and Matt Cosgrove. At the young leaders day we learnt that to be a good leader you should think of others before yourself and be selfless.

By Ben

On Monday the 12th of March the 6 school leaders went to the city to addend National Young Leader Day. We learnt many things about leadership and how to become a better leader , but the one thing that inspired me the most is….. “Don’t let your fears stop you from doing what you want. Stay positive. Believe in yourself.”

By Matilda.

On Monday 12th of March my fellow leaders and I went to the ICC in the city and met some amazing people with stories that touched our hearts.

We met the one and only John Coutis with him amazing story about his child hood.

We met the youngest female professional Cricket player 19 year old Lauren Cheatle.

We met my favourite author Matt Cosgrove.

And last of all the 2013 the voice winner Harrison Craig.

By Declan

On Monday the 12 the School Captains, Vice Captains and Prefects went to National young leaders day. The people who spoke to us were John Coutis, Lauren Cheatle (Women’s Cricketer), Harrison Craig (Winner Of the Voice Australia), and Matt Cosgrove (Author). John Coutis talked about being bullied because he was different and showed us this chart of what you can control and what you can’t control. Lauren Cheatle told us what she has done in her cricketing career, how she has overcome injuries and losses. Harrison Craig who won the Voice told us how singing was like a remedy for his stutter and how he overcame being bullied because of his stutter. Matt Cosgrove taught us the five P’s: 1. Perception is everything 2.Stay Positive. Find your Passion- and Practice. 3. People are important. 4. Be Persistent 5. The Power of imagination. After the listening to all the speakers I read through a few of my notes and thought about it and I was very grateful for going on this excursion and I have learnt a lot about leadership.

Carnival Fairs

Save The Date!

On Thursday 29th March, SIPPS Library will be hosting a Book Fair.

The Book Fair provides an opportunity for families to visit the Fair and to purchase books and other items for their own children from the wide range on display.

The SIPPS Library benefits with a book and cash commission being earned, based on total sales made on the day.

We are trialing a new company in 2018: Carnival Fairs. It offers all the services that our previous Book Fair has provided including Eftpos and credit card facilities and ordering extra copies of books that students wish to buy.

Keep an eye out for more information closer to the date.

Notes From the office

Term 1 Invoice/Statement

We have had a good response with many parents using the POP online payment system. There are still a number of payments to come in, so we are sending out a further print-out of outstanding invoices today and would ask that all payments be cleared by Friday 6th April. If, for some reason any family is having difficulties with payment of their account or would like to pay by instalment please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Tegg so that alternative arrangements can be made.

The office is still receiving unnamed clothing/hats/lunch boxes, water bottles. Please label your child/childrens’ belongings as it makes it possible to return the items to their owner.

Thank you

Helping Hands OOSH & Vacation Care

A warm hello from the Team at OOSH!

Can you believe it is week 8? How time flies! We are now preparing for Vacation Care. We are looking forward to an African Drumming and Dance incursion, excursions to Inflatable World and the cinema, exciting theme days and as always lots of sport, cooking and craft! If you would view our fabulous Holiday Program please click the link below and return the booking form as soon as possible to reserve your place.

Over the last couple of weeks we have enjoyed "Around the World" experiences at OOSH. We made Sushi on Japan Day, tested ourselves with an Australian Trivia quiz, danced up a storm with Bollywood musical statues and played a lot of soccer when we visited the United Kingdom. It is wonderful to see the children enjoy and connect with different cultures all around the world.

Children's Contribution:

"Today We had Emily from Got Game visit us and play some sport! It was raining so we played on the COLA (covered basketball court). We were playing Pac-Man with basketballs! You had to dribble the ball while running away from the ghosts. After that we played a shooting game. We had to shoot the basketballs into the hoop. There were 4 teams.

Matan, OOSH Journalist (13.3.18)

As always we welcome any inquiries or feedback!

Best wishes,
Grace Keegan
