Celebrating 2017 Learning Achievement
Success at SIPPS is underpinned by the great people and practices produced by a public education system that is second to none in preparing young people to lead rewarding and productive lives in a complex and dynamic world.
The DoE strategic planning and a school excellence framework guides our school planning and decisions now and into the future by providing a clear description of the key elements of high quality practice across the three domains of learning, teaching and leading.
This year sees the successful accomplishment of milestones that have been the focus of the 2015-2017 School planning cycle. Over these last three years we have set out to improve and promote student engagement, collective staff efficacy and effective parent and community partnerships. As a result we now have our students engaged more fully in a rich, inclusive, futures-focused curriculum.
Evidence of this achievement was celebrated at last Tuesday’s Awards Presentation Assemblies. Congratulations to award winners and all SIPPS students who have given their personal best efforts towards achieving excellence in behaviour and learning this year.
"You can design and create, and build the most wonderful place in the world. But it takes people to make the dream a reality." (Walt Disney)
I would like to acknowledge SIPPS teachers and administrative staff whose considerable talents, experience and time have been dedicated to put the learning needs and wellbeing of SIPPS students front and centre.
We also acknowledge and are extremely grateful for the continued support of our many parent volunteers including a wonderful P&C executive team and committees who have also devoted many hours of personal time to run the uniform shop, fundraising and social events. Special thanks and farewell to Matt Churchouse and Vera Dedijar for their support and significant contribution to our school.

‘Find JOY in the journey’
It was my great pleasure to represent SIPPS at the Sir Eric Woodward Memorial Schools 2017 Presentation Day last week. Their theme ‘find JOY in the journey’ and performances were inspired by Cirque du Soleil. Reflections of 2017 Student Leaders
School Captains
This year has been the highlight of my time at St Ives Park and being school captain was a big part of it. I remember how excited I was last year to find out I had been elected even though I didn’t really know what it meant. And now that I’ve experienced it, I can truly say that I have loved everything about being your school captain. It was awesome knowing that teachers and students at the school trusted me and believed I could get things done.
Taking responsibility was one of the biggest challenges, but it was also the thing I enjoyed the most. I never thought that getting stuck with doing extra tasks before school and during lunch would actually be a good thing. But it was, and heaps of fun too. Because it often meant that I had an important job to do. If a teacher or a student needed my help, I was ready to give it. It was this responsibility that I loved the most. It’s nice to be needed.
Helping with the organisation of school activities, writing the scripts for assemblies, communicating with the teachers about tasks that needed to be done and running errands around the school, became regular events in my life. But don’t think the job didn’t have its perks.
The Leadership camp and the National Young Leaders Day conference were definite highlights of my time as school captain because I got to learn about leadership, team work and identifying my strengths and weakness and how I can be a good leader.
But I learned the most about leadership by actually being school captain and walking in my own shoes. I learned the importance of communication and getting your thoughts across clearly, I learned the importance of listening to everyone’s ideas and building on them rather than picking out the flaws, I learned the importance of creating solutions to fix problems rather than focusing on the problem, I learned the value of kindness and enthusiasm for getting people to join you, and I learned how important it is for a leader to stop leading sometimes and follow.
I feel very fortunate to have been part of the leadership team at SIPPS, and I want to thank my fellow captains and prefects for all their help. I also want to thank Mrs Hayllar for been a great teacher and guiding me, Mrs Tegg for trusting me and giving me responsibility, and all my friends and school mates for always helping me out when I couldn’t do it by myself.
St Ives Park is a wonderful school where everyone is made to feel like they belong. It has given me so many opportunities and I have grabbed as many of them as I could. I participated because I wanted to build a caring school community, encourage other to get involved, and help make our school better.
I’m only 11 but I’ve done my best to set a good example as school captain. Mum says I’m a “servant leader”, because I enjoy helping others and my enthusiasm influences people in a positive way. There are many types of good leaders and next year’s school captains will have to find their own unique way of ‘leading’. But no matter what type of leaders you choose to be, I encourage you all to follow this simple recipe for success PARTICIPATE, HELP OTHERS and HAVE FUN.

Good evening parents staff and students.
This year I have had the immense privilege of being a school captain.I am so grateful and fortunate to have been given this role and have had a blast. I never thought I could keep up with all the challenging responsibilities of being a captain but it has actually been really fun.
Leading the school has enforced and dedicated an important role to me to guide the school and assist teachers and fellow students.
Being a school captain has pushed me to always do my best, be in charge, be better at problem solving and be a role model for younger students.
I feel so lucky to be able to represent and lead such an outstanding school. St Ives Park has been like a second home to me and has been so warm and friendly to me. As school captain I have participated in many leadership excursions and events. I went to a leadership camp where I learnt vital leadership and life skills and mingle with other school leaders. I went to the Parliament House and learnt lots about the government, and have participated in many more leadership outings. I would never have all of these insightful experiences if I hadn’t been part of the leadership team.
I learnt tips on how to be able to lead a team, being organised and being responsible and socially aware. If you want others to respect you, you must earn that respect as a responsible and trustworthy leader. Every day that I come to school I try my best to be the best leader I can be.
In high school and further through life I will remember and apply these valuable skills.
To the new leadership team:
You are very lucky: it is a fantastic opportunity to represent your school and collaborate with many different types of people. Thank you to the leadership team for helping me lead by my side. Thank you Mrs Tegg and all the teachers for their hard work and dedication towards this school.
And finally, Thank you
Rachael
SRC Leaders
This year we had the privilege of being SRC Leaders. We have participated in events such as Harmony Day, Bully No way day and the Pyjama and Onesie day.
We successfully raised money for both our school, and Charities such as the smith family and the Aboriginal literacy foundation using gold coin donations.
We would like to thank the SRC representatives from each class and also Mrs Field and Miss Emerson as SRC wouldn’t have happened without you. The SRC also discussed Heroes of the House day, new paint colours for the bathrooms and gratitude. We would also like to wish next year’s leaders the very best. Thank you!

1S 2017 Highlights
This year 1S have done lots of fun things but we think the very best thing was when Eddie arrived in our room. Eddie is our elf on the shelf and he is very cheeky. Some of the other cool stuff we have done this year:
- Movie Bugs when we made movies using bugs we made from paddle pop sticks and pom poms.
- Young Engineers when we made washing machines from lego. The washing machine actually spun around!
- We learnt a dance and performed it on stage at the SIPPS Spectacular.
- We used puppets to tell a story about a seal starting at a new school.
- We visited Healthy Harold in his van and learnt about healthy food and how to keep ourselves safe.
- We did lots of fun sport with GOT Game and we won 2 balls for being good.
We did so many things that we can’t tell them all!
We think the most special thing about 1S is that we all care about each other and like to make each other feel happy. We have had a fantastic year this year and we can’t wait to be in Year 2!

5/6 H Reflections 2017
Egor says...
This year was one of the hardest years of my life because I moved to a new country. In the beginning of 2017 I had no friends, no language and bad results on my tests. Then things began to get better, I moved to a really good soccer team and I learned how to speak English.
I spent a lot of time with my parents because I didn’t have friends and I experienced my first Halloween. This was my first year at St Ives Park Public School and I liked it. When I arrived I thought everyone would be mean to me, but no one was. Everyone helped me with Maths and English and I made friends because I was beginning to understand them. Sometimes students were mean, but I didn’t mind.
The teachers were all kind and helped me. I learned many new things like touch football, handball, google classroom, iMaths and many more. I had some bad moments but I had many more good, exciting things that I really enjoyed. So 2017 was the best year I have had and I will never forget it.
Mathilde says…
This year has been my first year at St Ives Park Public School. This school is much smaller than my old school but I have loved every single moment of my time here. I have one more year and I know it will be even better than the last. Although I have had good moments and bad, the best was when I got the chance to be House Captain for 2018.
This year has been a roller coaster, with many ups and downs, but that is part of life and I can’t wait to go on my next rollercoaster ride next year.
Jessica says…
2017 has been a great year because of all the great programs at St Ives Park Public School. During the first half of the year K-2 students participated in Seed Harvest Spoon and 3-6 got to do it in the second half of the year. We also participated in a Got Game program where we did gym, athletics, dance and team skills. This program was such fun. I also really enjoyed the new STEAM room and the laptops and robotics. I enjoyed creating a robot for kindy orientation day.
This year I learned a lot in all areas. It was a great experience to perform with different music groups. 2017 has been the best last year of Primary School.
Aden says…
2017 has been the highlight of my time at SIPPS. Being School Captain became a big part of my life. It came with a lot of responsibilities but I took them and embraced the challenges. I got involved in as many extra curriculum activities as I could and loved every minute of it. I had so much fun on camps and excursions and made the most of every activity.
The highlight of my year was the National Young Leaders Day Conference and Leadership Camp. I learnt all about being a great leader and knowing my strengths and weaknesses. I recommend all future students get as involved as possible.
Creative Arts News
STAGE 1 – MORE FLOWERS FROM MONET’S GARDEN
While learning interesting facts about Claude Monet, Stage 1 students were also learning some artistic techniques.
Textures were made by printing with bubble wrap or crumpled paper dipped in paint. Backgrounds were varied by mixing water with the paint to make it lighter and using the brush strokes for texture. Repeating patterns were made by drawing into thick paint with the handle end of the brush.
1S and 1/2E students painted their flowers and insects, cut them out and collaged them onto their backgrounds.
2F/T students painted their flowers onto their backgrounds and when dry, added details and enhancements using oil pastels.
The results are magnificent! Congratulations Stage 1.
Wouldn’t they look beautiful if they were framed?
Christmas Charity Concert
