Principal’s Message
Thanks P&C
Congratulations to the P&C for a wonderful Trivia Night, especially Graham Warn and the organising committee. I would also like to acknowledge SIPPS teachers who assisted with access on the day. It was great to see parents and staff enjoying the opportunity to have fun while supporting the great learning programs and resources that all students enjoy at SIPPS.
Thank you also to the P&C for coordinating yesterday’s cake stall fundraiser at the Bare Creek Trail Run.
I would like to acknowledge the tremendous work of our school’s P&C President, executive team and volunteers who have made a wonderful contribution of their time, talents and enthusiasm to support our school community this year. We look forward to the election of the 2018 P&C executive at the Annual General Meeting at 7:15pm on Wednesday 22 November in the STEAM Learning Studio.

Thank you to parents who responded to the recent Tell Them From Me Survey. I will present the report derived from data collected in this survey at the P&C annual general meeting.

Remembrance 11 Nov
In 2017, 11 November marks the 99th anniversary of the Armistice which ended the First World War (1914–18). Last Friday our school prefects Milan and Claire were invited to the Roseville Returned Servicemen’s Memorial Club to lay a poppy at the remembrance memorial on behalf of our school – ‘Lest We Forget’.
Staff news
Best wishes to Mrs Hayllar who will take maternity leave from the end of next week. Mrs Carol Myburgh will be the Relieving Assistant Principal and 5/6H teacher for the remainder of 2017.
Mrs Little is also on leave for the remainder of this year and Mrs Took and Mrs Strong will be sharing the learning and support teacher role during this time.
Best Wishes

Rachel – Spelling Bee State Finalist
Congratulations to Rachael who was a star performer at last week’s Premier’s Spelling Bee State Final. Rachael is the first representative from our school to be invited to ABC studios in Sydney to participate in this prestigious event with other finalists from State schools across NSW. I was very proud and honoured to be there for this special event. Well done to Rachel on this wonderful achievement.

Inspiring & Nurturing Successful Lifelong Learners
On Thursday the 2nd of November 1/2E and 2FT came together to sing "Shine Together" from the Count Us In program.
650,000 students in over 3,000 schools across Australia sang "Shine Together" at the same time. This program gets us to feel like a community with all the other schools.

1/2E have been learning to write emotive poems incorporating the five senses. The success criteria for these poems was to use personification, onomatopeia, adjectives and short, sharp lines.
Shells dancing in the river.
Fish swimming in the shimmering water,
lovely fish parading.
Mean sharks hunting.
Manta Rays twirling.

Hot sunny day,

I can't look up,
it's too bright.
It's getting hotter,

In the ocean are big fish,
waiting to be on a big dish.
Salty water in my mouth,
all the fish are heading south.
The coral on the ocean floor,
all the sea food people calling for more.
Dusty sand in the middle of the sea.
In the sea is not one single flea.
Big fish swimming around the rocks.
People fishing on all the docks.

STAGE 3 – BEAUTIFUL WORK
This selection of stunning oil pastel designs, created by students from 5/6H and 5/6S, is the outcome of a three stage project.
First, students closely observed collections of sea shells and seed pods to make detailed drawings.
Next, the textures and patterns were simplified as students re-drew and organised their shapes into pleasing compositions.
The final designs were drawn using oil pastels on textured paper. Some students chose complimentary colours, while others used harmonious colour combinations.
The results are vibrant and exciting.
Congratulations Stage 3!

A huge thank you to Graham and Sarah who planned and ran the whole evening. To Emmy and Claire for sourcing the vast array of prizes. To Magdalena for the lovely poster and flyer design. And the others in the P&C who helped make it happen. If you were a successful bidder in the silent auctions, please don't forget to pay your dues to a P&C member or into our P&C bank account.
