Principal’s Message
Festival of Children’s Music
Congratulations to our Junior Choir and Senior Dance Group for their outstanding performances at The 2017 Festival of Children’s Music. As the festival’s President, I was extremely proud of SIPPS students’ conduct and contribution to the success of this year’s festival. Over 500 students performed in Matinee and Evening performances at The Concourse Chatswood. Thank you to Miss Emerson and Miss Shin for training our choristers and dancers and giving up personal time to give SIPPS students the opportunity to be part of this extraordinary experience.

Thank you SIPPS Teachers; making a positive difference and educating our future leaders.
Teaching is the profession that creates all other professions, and that is something worth celebrating!
Thank you to the P&C for providing teaching staff with a special lunch last Friday to celebrate National Teachers’ Day. The acknowledgement of the outstanding job our teachers do on a daily basis to support our students and their family was very much appreciated.
The next P&C Meeting on Wednesday 22 November will be the Annual General Meeting and the last one for 2017.
Thank you to The Rotary Club of St Ives who kindly gave the Teachers at St Ives Park Public a beautiful basket of apples to celebrate Happy World Teacher’s Day.

Parent Forum – BYODD
Parents are invited to a meeting to hear about how our school’s Bring Your Own Designated Device (BYODD) iPad program has been implemented over the last 2 years to enhance learning opportunities for our Stage 3 students. This meeting is primarily intended for parents of children transitioning to Year 5 or 6 next year but we welcome any interested SIPPS parents to this forum next Monday 6 November at 5 to 5:45pm. The meeting will take place in our new STEAM learning studio.
School Evaluation
The school is currently in the process of self-evaluation against the new version of the School Excellence Framework. This will be published in the 2017 Annual School Report which is published early next year. Teachers and executive staff have been analysing student, teacher and parent survey data and other measures as the basis for planning future school directions in the 2018-2022 planning cycle. Please see the following link to the Department of Education’s revised School Excellence Framework.

Buddy reading has started!
Thursday of Week 2 saw the commencement of the buddy reading program for Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 5 and 6 students. Our younger students were very excited to read to their buddies and welcomed the assistance provided by the senior students to help develop their reading skills.
Well done to all the Kindergarten and Year 1 students who took this initiative and opportunity to practise their reading.
A big thank you to the Year 5 and 6 students, who proved to be excellent mentors and provided great support the younger students.
We hope to have lots of students remember to come to buddy reading from 8:40am every Thursday morning in KH.

Marvellous Mixtures’ Science Incursion
In Week 1, Stage 1 were involved in a hands-on Science workshop exploring mixtures. They used magnets to extract iron from weet-bix and observed how soil and water can be separated using a bandage as a filter. They also created swirling rainbow mixtures using milk, food colouring and detergent. By far the most popular experiment was when the students combined skittles, water and a sugar cube. The hardest part for them was resisting eating the skittles! This experience was a wonderful way for the students to finish up their Science unit and deepen their understanding of the different ways mixtures can behave and methods that can be used to separate them. Words they used to describe their experience were fun, exciting and creative!

SIPPS STEAM WEEK- DigiEd Claymation Incursion
On Monday, students in Stage 3 participated in a Digital Claymation Workshop to celebrate STEAM week. At the start of the day, the students learnt skills to operate video and computer technologies to shoot, edit and produce a short claymation animation. They worked in groups of four to plan narratives using a storyboard. Once all groups had created an attention-grabbing story, they proceeded to making clay models such as rainbow unicorns, cars, pugs and super heroes to feature in their movie. Students spent most of the day shooting and editing their digital animated movie whilst also having lots of fun immersing themselves as film directors and sound effect experts.

Yesterday we went to the STEAM room and we made washing machines. We made the washing machines out of Lego. When we were done with the lego pieces we put our hand up and then we got a motor and a battery. The program was Young Engineers. I loved making the washing machine. By Jessica 1S
I went to the STEAM room for “Young Engineers”. We made a washing machine out of Lego. It was really fun when the cotton wool was sticking to the Lego on the inside of it. It is called centrifugal force. By Lucas 1S

Creative Arts News
Stage 2 students have been studying bicycles as subject matter in art.
Some students found remembering the correct construction a little tricky and needed to use their imagination as well.
Most students were much more satisfied with the more realistic results of their observation drawings.
The next step will be a total de-construction to produce a semi-abstract bicycle design.
