Principal’s Message

Welcome back

Thank you to Ms Sheehy and Mrs Hayllar for their great leadership of our school during the second half of Term 3. Term 4 at SIPPS is set to be filled many positive learning opportunities for students to grow and develop their cognitive, social and emotional wellbeing. This term we also welcome back from leave Mrs Shanahan and Mrs Allman. It was wonderful to acknowledge the positive achievement from many students across all stages at last week’s K-6 assembly. Congratulations to students and staff for a tremendous SIPPS Spectacular and to the whole school community for the success of celebrations for Fathers’ Day. Coming up next week is STEAM Week. Please see further information later in this bulletin.

Assessment and Reporting

Semester 2 assessment and reporting processes are well underway. Semester 2 reports will be sent home to parents on Friday December 8. Students have re-focussed well towards achieving their learning goals over the last week. Please remember the importance of full-time and on-time school attendance so that all students have the best chance to benefit from a complete year of teaching and learning across the curriculum. This also includes opportunities to demonstrate their learning for assessment and reporting purposes. If your child is absent from school for whole or part of a school day, please ensure that the class teacher receives a note within 7 days to explain the absence. Alternatively parents can use the absentee form on the schoolzine app.

Bush Fire Season

The Bush Fire Season is upon us once again. Although our school is not in an immediate bushfire zone it is necessary to have arrangements in place in the event of an emergency.

In the event of a bushfire emergency where the school is required to evacuate, an alert will be sent through Schoolzine informing parents of the location we have evacuated to and what further action you should take. These actions could include picking your child up from the evacuation site, or from the school later on if it is deemed safe for students to return. To ensure the safety of all our students and to keep evacuation routes clear, no parents will be allowed to pick up their child until they have reached the evacuation site. Please do not try to come to the school or try to pick up your child on route.

Selective High School

Selective high schools cater for the specific needs of high achieving gifted students who may otherwise be without sufficient classmates at their own academic and social level. Selective schools help gifted and talent students to learn by grouping them with other gifted and talented students, teaching them in specialised ways and providing educational materials at the appropriate level. Parents apply when the student is in Year 5. The students sit the test in March of Year 6.

Applications for selective high school placement in Year 7 in 2019 open on 10 October 2017 and close on 13 November 2017 at the following link. The Selective High School Placement Test is on 15 March 2018.

2017 Zone of Origin

On Friday 15th September, two St Ives Park took part in the first ever Zone of Origin in Wyong on the Central Coast. Ella and Egor, both in Year 6, were selected to travel to the venue and compete in a football match against the Tuggerah Lakes Zone. They were selected after submitting a letter to explain why they were the best and fairest player to represent our school and our zone.

The Zone of Origin was an initiative put forward by the Ku-ring-gai PSSA to bring together zones from different areas for a gala day of sport and reward great students who do not always receive the accolades they deserve. In a ‘barbarians’ style format, the schools in each zone, selected one boy and one girl to represent their respective zones to form a team. The team would then play in a match against the other zone. The winning team would receive a trophy to keep until the following year.

A great day of fun and football was had by all involved with the Ku-ring-gai teams being victorious in both matches. Following the matches a sausage sizzle kept the students well fed, along with a presentation of trophies.

The feedback from the day was fantastic and the Ku-ring-gai PSSA look forward to expanding the concept into other sports and inviting other zones to become involved in the future.

Both Ku-ring-gai zone teams won, with Egor scoring 3 of the 7 goals in the boys 7-0 win and Ella saving 2 goals in the girls 5-2 win. A brilliant result by the Ku-ring-gai zone and by the SIPPS representatives! We are very proud of you!

Inspiring & Nurturing Successful Lifelong Learners

SIPPS Spectacular Performance

A fantastic night was had by students, staff and parents on Tuesday 19 September. Throughout the term, students collaborated with our dance teacher Rachel from Got Game, to develop their understanding of creative movement and learn a choreographed dance. Our performance night entitled ‘Dance Through the Ages’ showcased a combination of the dance, band and choir talents at St Ives Park. Our narrators Patrick and Mathilde took the audience on a mesmerising journey through the decades of music. Every performance was filled with enthusiasm and smiles, as our students were able to share their experience with family and friends. All students were outstanding in both individual and group performances. This was a fantastic occasion for the community and a great celebration of learning. Well done to the students of St Ives Park!

SIPPS STEAM Week

The introduction to our new STEAM classroom this year has been well received by students, staff and parents. Our students enjoy using this versatile and colourful learning space while exploring and expanding their learning. Whether the students are coding robots, completing science projects or collaborating as part of their literacy and numeracy lessons, the students have found this an engaging environment for all things STEAM. This term we will be continue our journey of developing the students’ STEAM and 21st Century skills by holding a SIPPS STEAM Week.

As part of the week, our 3-6 students will take part in a Digi Ed animation workshop. These workshops are designed to enhance their skills in technology, creative arts and literacy, whilst developing their understanding of digital animation. Our K-2 students will put their engineering skills to the test when taking part in a Young Engineers workshop. During the workshops our students will develop their understanding of basic engineering concepts and work collaboratively to design and build machines as part of the Lego bricks challenge.

SIPPS STEAM Week will be held in week 3 of this term. Our students are all geared up for an exciting week of learning. Parents are more than welcome to drop by during our Digi Ed and Young Engineers sessions to observe the learning in action. For more information of when your child will be attending their session please speak to the classroom teacher.

New Program at SIPPS

The Got Game Resilience and Team Building program is a 10 week unit that empowers students with social and emotional well-being. This is achieved through the use of game play and problem solving; catering directly to the Growth and Development and Interpersonal Relationships strands of the K-6 NSW PDHPE Syllabus.

The program is inclusive for all students and ensures that each child is working in a safe environment where they can actively participate in every aspect of the lesson. Whilst learning how to deal with problems, accept both winning and losing as a result, sportsmanship, team work, fair play, sharing, collaboration and communication skills. Students will also further enhance fundamental movement skills as well both fine and gross motor skills.
