Principal’s Message
School Grounds Maintenance
We are fortunate to have extensive grounds which provide many opportunities for students to learn and play amidst the natural environment. Maintaining our school grounds takes a lot of effort and we thank our P&C for supporting the school by organising working bees to assist with weeding, mulching and general clean-up of the school grounds. Special thanks to those families who attended the recent working bee.
The school is also required to employ a licenced contractor to undertake annual tree safety inspections and remediation. We also ask SIPPS students and visitors to our site to take responsibility for maintaining a litter free environment through the adoption of waste reduction initiatives and to dispose of rubbish in the garbage bins provided. This is consistent with our school expectation of Respect – ‘Care for your environment’
Winning Speeches
Congratulations to Lily, Summer, Aden and Amy making it to the next round of the Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition. They will represent SIPPS this week at the local final to be held at Belrose Public School. Good luck to our team for Thursday.
Reporting Student Achievement
Teachers are finalising Semester 1 student reports which will go home to parents on Tuesday 27 June. Student achievement is measured against stage-based outcomes and individual learning goals. They contain information about what has been taught and about students’ current levels of knowledge, skills and understandings, including areas for further development. Reports also provide parents with information about how students are progressing socially as well as academically.
ICAS Writing
Students who are participating in ICAS Writing need to be at school by 7:50am this Thursday 15 June. The test will start promptly at 8am in the 5/6 S and 5/6 H classrooms.

Leadership Camp
Recently the captains and vice captains of our school and many others attended the 2017 leadership camp. We had lots of fun made new friends and learnt a lot about leadership.
We along with another 170 school leaders were lucky enough to experience this amazing camp. I made lots of new friends and I got closer to friends I already knew. I learnt, while doing the dual flying fox activity, that a good leader has to have courage, they have to be willing to take a risk and try something new even if you’re not sure it's going to work out.
At the trivia night, I learned that leaders need to be smart and able to make fair decisions.
When doing an activity called the matrix, I learned that leaders have to be open to suggestions. In this activity there was a big grid placed on the floor on which there is a path you must find to get from one side of the grid to another if you step on one wrong grid square you have to start again.
At the camp we had a paper plane competition my teams plane didn't fly very far and we kind of knew it wouldn't. In doing this game I learnt that good leaders have to have a go even if they might fail; they have to be positive and encouraging.
And finally a good leader needs to be able to make things fun and enjoyable. The reason I loved this camp so much was because it felt like I was just playing games. I was learning without even realizing it.
All in all I had a great time at this amazing camp.

1 / 2 E
1/2E have been working really hard this week to engage in our learning through technology. This week we watched a video conference by Aaron Blabey and Mem Fox presented by the Premiers Reading Challenge. We also created amazing stop motion movies with iPads about bugs. This was with the help of 'Movie Bugs' and it was to finish of our Schoolyard Safari science unit. We also got the chance to learn in our new multipurpose classroom! In this wonderful new room we logged onto the laptops and joined our very own 'classroom' in Google Drive
Thank you

SIPPS Multicultural Public Speaking School Finals
On Monday 29th May SIPPS held the Multicultural Public Speaking School Final. In class each student in years 3 to 6 had presented a speech from a range of multicultural topics. Two students from each class were then selected to represent their class in the school final.
The finalists from Stage 2 were Zoe, Lily, Daniela and Summer. In Stage 3 the finalists were Amy, Aden, Patrick and Katherine. It was a very close competition with all speakers giving eloquent and thought provoking speeches on current multicultural issues in Australia and from around the world.
From each stage two students were selected to represent St Ives Park at the district finals. Lily and Summer were chosen as the Stage 2 representatives and Amy and Aden will represent Stage 3.
All finalists are to be congratulated on the high standard of public speaking demonstrated in the competition. We wish our school representatives all the best as they proceed to the district finals on Thursday at Belrose Public School.

Creative Arts News
Visual Arts
Congratulations to Cherry for achieving 2nd prize in the recent art exhibition at St Ives Shopping Village for her sea-shell design. Thank you to Mrs Stobo for enabling our school to take part in this exhibition.
TEDDY BEARS’ PICNIC
These very cute teddies were painted by the following students in KH :
Chloe, Elizabeth, Harry, Annie, Lucas, Andrew, Ava, Ira, Callum and Bailey.
The patterned bow ties were created by making dots of primary colours. By allowing the dots to mix together, some students created secondary colours.
Music
St Ives Park Public School is fortunate and very proud to have been selected to participate in two wonderful concerts to be performed at the Sydney Opera House later this year. The first involves the recorder ensemble which will perform at the Festival of Instrumental Music on Monday 31st July alongside talented instrumentalists from all over New South Wales. The recorder ensemble has worked tirelessly during lunchtimes to learn the music for this exciting performance opportunity. The Senior Choir has also been working hard towards a performance on Thursday 7th September at the Arts Alive Primary Choral Concert. Congratulations to all involved for their hard work and dedication.

BookFest 2017
SIPPS students have been involved in this very exciting event, hosted by the Premier's Reading Challenge.
There were 20 authors presenting over 3 days all inspiring students during the scheduled VCR sessions. Jeff Kinney, creator of the very popular Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, opened the BookFest. There were hundreds of schools around the state of NSW excited to see and hear Jeff speak and interact with his virtual audience. Sofia was lucky enough to have one of her/his questions selected for Jeff to answer during his session. The BookFest was a great way to celebrate books and reading in a 21st century format.
